School opening September 2020

Dear Parents/ Carers,

We cannot wait to have you back next week.

We have completed a thorough risk assessment and the measures that will be in place in September include:

 Full class bubbles with separate rooms, outdoor area, dining arrangements, outdoor equipment and toilet cubicles & sinks.

 Within class bubbles, children will be encouraged to keep apart but we cannot enforce social distancing. Only where possible, children will sit side by side. Our classrooms are not big enough to facilitate this entirely.

 Staggered start & finish times.

 Staggered breaktimes and lunchtimes.

 No whole school events including assembly (at the moment no Harvest festival or Christmas productions either) although we will look at doing something online.

 Limited movement of pupils around the school building.

 Each child will have their own stationery kit which will be named and provided.

 Communal equipment will be sanitized at the end of each day.

 Thorough cleaning schedules throughout the school day and after school.

 Hand sanitisers throughout the school.

 Adults will be encouraged to maintain 2m distancing between each other.

 Attendance will be compulsory as before. Please see the page on the website that details the staggered timings & entrances/ exits. You can see how complex these arrangements have to be therefore it is even more imperative that children arrive/ are picked up on time as you will not be able to enter school once a different class start using the gate. This will result in you having to wait until every other class has finished using the gate before we can bring your child out.

 School uniform should be worn every day.

 School meals will be provided or you can choose to send your child in with a packed lunch box.

 Parents/carers are unable to enter the school grounds so we will greet your children at the gates (telephone appointments can be made).

 At the moment we cannot safely use the library (browsing the books is not good for infection control) therefore the library will remain shut for the moment.

Some general information for the safe return of pupils in September.

Children can bring bookbags in. We will be quarantining books for 48 hours once they are returned to us, therefore there will be set days for returning books so that teachers can plan and ensure that your child has the next book to read. Your teacher will let you know this information at the beginning of term.

Water bottles.

Please send your child in with a named water bottle, this will be returned each evening for you to wash & bring back the next day.

Children who are taken ill during the day

We have a first aid room which will be used to isolate any children who are taken ill during the day. It is especially important that we have your most up to date contact details so there is no delay in you coming to get your child,

Uniform is to be worn again. There is now no requirement for ‘fresh clothes every day’ so we expect children to wear school uniform. We are going to discuss what to wear on your child’s PE day on our planning day on the 2nd September. PE kits are still required, although we do not usually start PE for the first couple of weeks, so don’t worry if that isn’t sourced yet.

Reception children are to wear their uniform for their visit (we want to see how smart you look).

Face coverings.

The current guidance is that children and adults in school do not wear a face mask/ covering. If this changes, I will let you know.

Parents/Carers dropping off & picking up.

This is going to be a busy time at the beginning and end of the day. In order to minimise congestion at these times, we would ask that for the moment each child is accompanied by only one adult to the school gate. As we see how busy the gates/ Howard & Henshaw Street are, this may be able to change but in the first instance, please only send one adult with your child to the gate.

Most importantly, we cannot wait to see you all again, welcome our new children and start a fresh term! I won’t have answered all of your questions here but please e-mail the school office if you have any. The school e-mail account will be accessible again now the server is up and running following our rewire.

Many thanks

Miss Vrlec
