Welcome back to Victoria Park Infant School

Autumn 2

Week beginning 18th December

What a super fun filled last two days it has been! We've managed to squeeze in a surprise visit from Father Christmas, played party games at our Christmas party, watched a pantomime about Sleeping Beauty as well as completing some Christmas themed activities. What a busy way to finish the last week of term!

I would like to say a huge thank you for the generous gift. I never expect anything from the children but it is greatly appreciated and I am very touched that you thought of me.

Have a wonderful break and Merry Christmas to all those families who are celebrating. I will see you for the new term on Thursday 4th January.

Miss Green

Week beginning 11th December

Thank you to all the adults who were able to come and watch our performances on Wednesday and Thursday. We think you will agree that the children were amazing, with the special mention going to Noor who did not hesitate to volunteer (and learn her dance) when we needed a replacement camel at short notice! The children all enjoyed performing for you and loved the thrill of taking part in a live production😊.

In maths we have been working with numbers within 20, finding one more or less than a number, comparing numbers and finding out how many tens and ones are in a number. There are some games in the maths folder, if your child would like to continue to practise at home. In RE we have learnt about the story behind the Christian festival of Christmas.

Next week

On Monday it's Christmas pantomime and party day. The children can come to school dressed in their party clothes. Please remember that they will still be playing outside during the day, so please ensure that they have something warm to wear and have suitable shoes on their feet. We will provide the food and drink for the party, as well as prizes for the games we will play. All food will be suitable for a vegetarian diet and dairy-free alternatives will be provided for those who need them. If your child has any other dietary requirements, please see Miss Green on Monday morning.

Many thanks for supporting us to do so many lovely things in school this year.

Week beginning 4th December

What a busy week it’s been in school! Starting with our Santa Dash on Monday in the park, which we all enjoyed and it was colourful and festive in class with us all getting dressed up in our Christmas jumpers on Thursday. Elsewhere in school the Christmas festivities have begun and we have been practising hard for our Christmas performances. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday or Thursday next week (if you have been asked to provide clothes for your child for the performance, please can they be in school by Monday in a labelled bag).

Week beginning 27th November

This week we have been continuing with our class book Owl Babies, retelling the story using the conjunction and in our sentences.

In Maths we have been learning about numbers to 20, ordering them and representing them in different ways. There is a game below for extra practise.

In History we have been learning about how shopping has changed in the last 100 years using the paintings by local artist Frances Lennon as well as photographs. We had our last PE sessions (for this term) with the coaches this week. The children have really enjoyed themselves and the coaches are really pleased with everybody's participation and developing skills. Well done 1G!

Next week

On Saturday 2nd December, there is singing in the park at 12 with Mrs Walkden.

On Monday 4th December we are having a Santa Dash in the park to raise money for playground equipment.

On Thursday 7th December its Christmas jumper day for all those who want to take part. The children can wear their own clothes on this day.

 Week beginning 20th November

A fantastic week of learning 1G!

The children have been historians this week investigating if children in the past (living in Stretford) played different games compared to today. The children looked at the paintings of local artist Frances Lennon to help find out the answers.

For PE we have been continuing with football, dance and gymnastics sessions this half term and all the coaches have commented on how much the children have improved since September. Keep up the good work 1G! In Science we have been continuing to look at the weather and changing seasons and how humans adapt to them. In Maths we have been finding out about 2D and 3D shapes.

Have a great weekend everybody and I'll see you on Monday,

Miss Green

Week beginning 13th November

What a super week we have all had!

On Monday there were lots of bright colours and patterns in the classroom, as we all wore odd socks to school, as part of national anti-bullying week. We have continued with this work in our health and well-being lessons focusing on friendships, learning how to talk to each other respectfully and how to recognise different kinds of behaviour. The children really enjoyed our discussions and role play sessions.

In English we have been using the book Peace at Last by Jill Murphy and using drama to explore the characters. In our writing we have been sequencing the story, completing speech bubbles, learning to use adjectives and using our imaginations to guess what Mrs Bear might be dreaming about! In Music we have been playing glockenspiels as an accompaniment to a song and in History we have been learning about when Victoria Park opened and how the park got its name. We also looked at photographs comparing how the park was used in the past compared to now.

Week beginning 6th November

Another super week of learning in 1G!

The children have enjoyed practising some Christmas songs in preparation for singing in the park with Mrs Walkden. In the classroom we have been finding out the names of different percussion instruments and learning how to play them.

Over the past two weeks in maths, we have been learning to add and subtract using practical objects to help us such as, pictures, 10 frames, number lines or cubes. We've also learnt how to complete these calculations mentally by counting on or counting back. There are some games in the maths folder if you want to continue practising at home and it will be helpful if your child practised counting forwards and backwards starting from any number to 20.

We just wanted to say thank you to everyone who were able to attend parents evening this week. It was lovely to chat with you and be able to show you your child’s work. We hope you are as proud of their achievements as we are.

Next week

On Monday as part of National Anti-Bullying Week, the children can wear odd socks as part of their school uniform to represent their uniqueness and individuality.

On Wednesday it is flu vaccination day for those who have completed the form on-line.

On Friday we are raising money for Children in Need, so the children can come to school wearing something spotty.

Week beginning 30th October

Welcome back! We hope you all had a lovely half-term break.

This week we have done some super poetry using our poem, In a Dark, Dark Wood. The children have learned the poem off by heart and used it to make their own poems which they performed to the class and wrote in their books. They had some fantastic ideas and worked hard on their handwriting and spelling. Well done 1G!

In maths we have been adding two numbers together and learning different ways of doing this, either using objects (counters), number lines or mentally counting on using fingers. The children have practised hard this week remembering to start in the right place/ get out the correct number of objects before adding them up! There are some links in the maths games folder if your child would like more practise at home.

In history this week, we found out why fireworks are used to celebrate bonfire night and we have talked about how to keep safe near fire and fireworks and made some posters to help us remember. Fireman Sam has made some safety videos, you can find them by clicking on the video below if you would like to reinforce this at home.

Fireman Sam NEW Episodes - Safety Fireworks! 🔥

Just to let you know that PE this half-term will be on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s and the children can come to school in their PE kit on those days. Don't forget that earrings need to be removed for PE days.

Next week
