Welcome back to Victoria Park Infant School

Week beginning 27th April 2020

To develop our materials theme, set up a simple clothes shop with sets of clothes, a tape measure, money, paper and pencils.

Drawing and mark making - Encourage the children to make shopping lists, suggest they draw and colour in pictures of their favourite clothes.  Always ask the children to name their work in the top left hand corner of their paper.

Reading - Look at labels and logos on clothes to see what they say.

Stories based on our ‘clothes / materials’ theme:

  • Mrs Mopple’s washing line by Anita Hewett
  • Mrs Honey’s Hat by M. Twin
  • Monsters Love Underpants by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort

Clothes nursery rhymes and action songs:

  •  Baa Baa Black Sheep
  • The sun has got his hat
  • Wishy Washer Washy Woman is always a nursery children’s favourite.

Phase one letters and sounds

In the nursery we focus on a different letter each week.  We use a sound box, a sound jar and refer to our letters and sounds working wall.

We were up to letter ‘O’.  You could try a similar activity at home.  Make a collection of everyday objects that begin with the letter ‘O’ and play a guessing game.  Emphasise the initial letter sound of the objects beginning with the letter ‘O’
