Welcome back to Victoria Park Infant School

Week 2

Hello R2 Families

In our topic work this week we have been learning about minibeasts. In drawing club it was animation week and we shared this delightful animation. Here's a link for you to enjoy it together...

Caterpillar Shoes

We gathered facts, chatted about the kindness of the caterpillar and what a lovely friend he was to all the other minibeasts and after my (very questionable) turn at drawing and naming the characters, the children made some fabulous interpretations of their own. There is always a buzz in the air during Drawing Club!

The minibeast theme continued throughout the week and the children have created butterfly life-cycles using pasta!

They have been writing about different minibeasts, listening carefully for every phoneme to help us to write some tricky words!...

In maths we have explored symmetry in nature. After looking at some photos of different butterflies and their beautiful patterns, we went on to explore how symmetry works for ourselves and created some very colourful, symmetrical butterfly paintings!

Outside, we went on a worm hunt! We carefully dug up as many worms as we could find! The children were so gentle but so excited by their wriggly discoveries! They worked together to create a habitat for the worms and chatted amongst themselves about what the worms needed...

The posty made a special delivery this week! We have purchased some tiny caterpillars from Insect Lore. We will place them in their new home and watch them grow and observe their life-cycle before our very eyes! Once the cocoons hatch we will will rightfully release the butterflies into the wild.

Your weekly £1 reception fund contributions make special projects like this possible, so thank you heart

Next week, we will continue our topic 'What a Wonderful World' and begin to learn about plants. Over the weekend, if you're out and about, in the park or even in the garden, do some detective work and see if you can see different plants that have already grown or are beginning to emerge from their winter sleep!

It is World Book Day this week. Check your emails for a letter from Mrs Dempsey. On Wednesday, we have a very special treat! A comic artist will be coming in to work with all the classes! On Thursday, the children are invited to come to school as their favourite comic character or to just dress up for fun.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Mrs Cook xx
