Topic

Carrying on with our mini topic, we are going to find out how people celebrate Chinese New Year. This year Chinese New Year will be celebrated on Friday 12^th February.

After watching the video have a go at making a dragon puppet. You can use your puppet to take part in the physical activity.

Make a dragon puppet

Literacy/writing

Look at the writing activity attached. Please print off or look at page 2 which shows a picture of a dragon and fireworks. Your child is to write a sentence next to each picture. The top of the sheet has some words to help and reminders to help the children to write a super sentence.

If you feel that your child is not ready to write a sentence, please could you encourage your child to give you a verbal sentence and then you can write the words dragon dance and firework in a highlighter and encourage your child to trace over your letters. Always encourage your child to form their letters correctly.

Phonics

Listen to the phase 3 tricky words song

Following on from that, I would like you to play a game using the tricky words from the song – me, be, you, was, all, they, my.

Write each of the tricky words on a separate piece of paper, card, whatever you have at home and then get a pair of socks and fold them into a ball or you could scrunch up a piece of paper. Then you are to aim to throw the ball onto one of the tricky words. You need to say out loud the tricky word your ball lands on. Have fun and let’s see how many tricky words you can read.

Maths

Sing a number song to get your brains working. What about 10 green bottles, 10 fat sausages or 5 little speckled frogs? (The words for these can be found online if you are not too sure of them)

Next we are going to the Chinese dragon ordering numbers game, Grown-ups, you can select which numbers are suitable for your child. Once you have finished the game, try practising forming numbers to 10 correctly.

Physical

Watch these children doing a dragon dance. You could join in with using your dragon puppet.
