Meet the Governors

The role of the Governing body is to help shape the strategic direction of the school and to safeguard the public interest in the school. They oversee the maintaining of and improvement of standards of achievement within our school. Governors are also responsible for ensuring that the school’s policies and administration meet statutory requirements and that our children are able to maximise the educational opportunities provided. The Governors support the school in it’s continuous drive to improve the already high standard of education provided to our children.

The Governors are appointed to provide:

  • An independent view

  • A wide experience of the outside world

  • A visible form of accountability for the head teacher and staff of the school

  • A focus on long term development and improvement

  • Accountability to the community for the use of resources and the standards of teaching and learning in the school

  • Support for the head teacher and staff.

Please find details below of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor.

Role Vice Chair of Governors, Chair of Finance Committee; Attendance Link Governor; Development Governor
Appointed 14/10/2017 - 13/10/2021 [2nd Term of Office]
Introduction

I am a co-opted governor with good community links within Stretford. I have been a governor at this school since 2013. I work full time for Network Rail in Programme Controls and I specialise in governance, compliance and audit. I am a part of many community groups within Stretford including: the Chairperson for The Friends of Victoria Park, and I was instrumental in reforming, and am the current Chairperson, for Stretford Children’s Theatre. I was previously Vice Chair of Victoria Park Junior School FAF and I was a part of this school’s PFTA while my son was here. I was on the Executive Committee of 23rd Stretford St Matthews Victoria Scout Group. I have been part of community funding panels, and I played an integral part in the formation of The Friends of Stretford Public Hall. These links mean that I can integrate the school further into our community and share resources, ideas and celebrations.

I have a long family history with the school, as my grandfather, mother and myself attended this school as a child, and my son also attended. I love this school – it is a part of my life and our community and feels like family. I wanted to become a governor to help the school be the best that it can be for all the children – including my own!’

Name Ms S Jones
Role Co-Opted Governor
Appointed 24/01/2018 - 23/01/2022
Introduction I am a co-opted governor (started in 2018). I have two children (my eldest son is in his last year at the Junior School and my youngest son is in Reception at the Infant School). I have lived in Stretford for 18 years and love being part of this community. I have worked for 20 years in the public and voluntary sectors - from the Welsh Assembly to the NHS and charity organisations to Local Government - in a wide range of roles. All of my jobs have a common theme of improving services for local people. I currently work for the newly formed Manchester Health and Care Commissioning organisation and I’m working on the Prevention Programme, which aims to improve health outcomes for Manchester residents. I was a founding trustee of Mummy’s Star, a National charity set up to support women and their families when a mum is diagnosed with cancer during pregnancy or within the first two years after a baby is born. I am currently an advisor to the Mummy’s Star board. I am delighted to become a governor at Victoria Park Infant School and to play a part in helping the school deliver the best start for local children.

Name

Mr K Kalina

Role Parent Governor
Appointment 17/05/2017 - 16/05/2021
Introduction I have been a co-opted governor at the school since May 2017; I also have a son currently in reception class of the school (and a pre-schooler who cannot wait to start in a few years!) I work full time for AWH Legal ltd as a Solicitor dealing with litigation. Born by the seaside in Blackpool, I moved to Manchester 10 years ago with my wife for work as we both got jobs in Manchester city centre. When we started a family we moved to Stretford and specifically the Victoria Park area as we saw it as a brilliant location to live and bring up our family. Although I have only lived in the area for the last 2 years, I feel a great affinity for Stretford and wanted to get involved formally in the local community. I see being a Governor as a way for me to offer my skills as a Solicitor (and father) and try and ensure our local school and kids get the best start they can.

Name

Mr A Patel

Role Parent Governor
Appointment 20/11/2017 - 19/11/2021
Introduction The school has played a very important role in my life as I’m a former pupil of Victoria Park Infant and Junior school. My daughter has recently joined reception and as it’s brought back very fond memories of the school. I believe I can call upon my experience from my professional career to identify areas of improvement and help develop the future vision for the school. I have excellent communications skills and combined with my calm and collective approach I hope to help the school maintain high standards. I believe that parent governors have a special role to play. I would always try to assess issues\decisions from the point of view of parents/carers. I would look to work with parents\teachers\governors to help drive the continued improvement needed to provide our children with the best chance of success. I have a proven track record of managing teams and driving through change in some challenging times. I’m an IT Manager by profession and with my knowledge hopefully it will be ideal for the school as we live in a world where technology is becoming a part of everyday life.
