Welcome back to Victoria Park Infant School

Week beginning 11th May 2020

This week, in the area of Understanding of the World we will continue our ‘materials’ topic by investigating a range of natural materials focusing on ‘the Seaside’

Discussion Points:

Things we see at the seaside – cliffs, sand, sea, waves, seagulls, pebbles, sea creatures, sea weed.

Things to do at the seaside – paddling, swimming, making sand castles, playing with beach balls, exploring and fishing in rock pools

Let's Go To The Beach - English Songs For Kids

Listen to this fun song - what kind of things do you see at the seaside

Activities to try at home:

Experiment in wet and dry sand.  Make a sand shapes and sand castles using wet sand.  Use sticks to make patterns in dry sand. Use containers with and without holes to tip and pour dry sand.

Experiment in water.  Test objects in water to see if they sink or float.

Listen to the sounds of the sea.  We have a lovely song we sing at school and make sounds to using various objects and instruments.  I can’t find it online but here are the words so that you can learn it as rhyme rather than as a song. Find objects and instruments to make the sounds of the sea.

Mr Vail has sent us an interesting picture of one of the tadpoles that is very close to becoming a frog.  When it is very close to changing into a frog like this one is it is known as a froglet.  Look at Mr Vails fingernail to compare the size of the froglet.

Mr Vail has sent another fantastic video clip of our tadpoles in the his garden pond!

Can you see one tadpole gulping for air.  The tadpoles are quickly changing now into frogs.  Wow it is amazing!!
