23/10/26
Well it's amazing how fast this half term has gone! The children have worked so hard and are starting to make amazing progress. I am particularly pleased with the progress in handwriting and maths.
Here are few things I would like you to practice over the holidays.
Parents Evening will be held in November so I will be able to share with you the progress your child has made.
If you get chance over the holidays please can you write a diary extract using capital letters and full stops correctly and using your best handwriting.
I have sent a few spellings from the YEAR 1 and 2 common exception words. We need to secure all the year 1 words quickly so we can move onto the year 2 words that we need to secure this year.
Maths homework is to learn all the shape names on the sheet and individual counting which I have listed in the reading record books.
Please also take a look at the one minute white rose maths app clicking on subtraction stage 10 subtract across a ten. If stage 10 is too easy try magic mix 10, 20 or 100.
Please remember to read for 10/15 minutes per day even in the holidays. I expect the children to read between 3 and 5 books per week. Little and often is the best way and those children who are reading regularly we can see the difference! Well done for all your efforts in spelling, maths and reading homework Class 2F!
Have a happy holiday and we will see you on 2/11/26.
16.10.26
This week 2F went on a trip to Manchester city centre! We walked to the tram stop in Stretford and got the tram to St Peter's square. When we arrived we headed over to Manchester Art Gallery to look at Lowry paintings that we had been studying in class. We looked at the people the colours and the style of his work.
After the Art Gallery we went to explore the statue of Emmaline Pankhurst and discussed why the statue was there and why it was important
Our whole class were very sensible on the walk and on the tram Well done!
The trip brought to life the topic on Manchester and it was lovely to see the children's excited faces!
In Literacy we studied trip rules and following instructions. On our return we wrote about our trip and thought about how to properly use the past tense ("I saw" instead of "I seen" for example).
In Maths we have been exploring shapes and their properties.
In Science we thought about the healthy lifestyles and keeping hygenic.
Homework is maths sheets as sent to you and spellings are individual for each child from the Year 2 common exception list. We need to secure these as soon as possible.
9.10.26
In 2F this week we have continued to look at addition and subtraction.
In literacy we have been exploring Harvest festivals and what it means to Chruistians. we wrote about what harvest is and looked in the dictionary to work on alphabetical order. Please practice ordering words or books in alphabetical order. The chidlren enjoyed making a register being the teacher and listing the pupils in alphabetical order. In Phonics we explored the alternative spellings of sounds such as kn, gn, air, are, ear, ere etc. We also looked at verbs and why they are important in a sentence. In topic we made posters about Stretford Public hall and talked about the range of emotions we experience each day during our PSHE lesson.
Spellings as always are listed in your red spelling book. Each set is individual for the child.
We have our trip to Manchester on Thursday morning, please make sure that you arrive on time for the start of the school day as we will be leaving shortly after registration. We will be back at school for lunch so there is no need to provide a snack.
2.10.26
This week in Year 2 we went on a visit to Stretford Public Hall as part of our topic. We learned about the history of the hall, that it was built by John Rylands and saved from demolition amongst other facts. We had a tour of the basement and spent time in the main hall doing some craft activities. The class were really well behaved throughout and enjoyed finding out more about their local area.
Back in school we carried on with out place value work in Maths and did some writing about Emmaline Pankhurst. We learned about the suffragettes and wrote about why they were so important in the history of Britain.
18.9.2026
Another great week in 2F. We spent time in literacy writing about nocturnal animals and continuing with our phonics. In Maths we focused on numbers to one hundred and where they belonged on a number line. We talked about how 5 is half way between 0 and 10 and that this can help with placing two digit numbers on unmarked number lines. In our topic work we looked at where Manchester is located in relation to other countries in the UK and in Art we painted pictures of houses before we start to look at the work of LS Lowry. In Science the class developed their knowledge of animal offspring and how some animals look completely different when they are born compared to the adult version of themselves. The key vocabulary was live offspring and hatchlings.
I have provided the children with maths homework today which is number bond 10. We like the children to know these off by heart as it really helps their addition and subtraction.
It was lovely to meet some of you at the meet the teacher meeting and I hope that it was informative.
Have a great weekend
11.9.2026
We have had a great first full week back in 2F! We have been looking at the book 'All Through the Night' as part of our literacy lessons and thinking about people who work at night. In Maths we have been concentrating on place value and breaking numbers up into their tens and ones. Our topic this half term is 'Manchester' and we spent time talking about landmarks and facts we already knew about Manchester. If you have chance over the weekend, maybe chat to your child about what Manchester is famous for. It could be sport, art, music etc. In PE we had great dance and football sessions.
I have provided the class with a spelling book and spellings to learn for a spelling test on Wednersdays.
Meet the teacher evening
Thursday 17th September 3.30-4pm
Hello and welcome to 2F!
It has been a pleasure getting to know the children so far this week. We've spent time in class getting used to routines and generally settling in to Year 2 life. The class have written about their holidays and in Maths have looked at different ways of partitioning numbers. We have explored living things in science and spent some time playing games in the hall with equipment.
In terms of reading books and home reading, the children's books have been given out this week and will be changed regularly. All children will have a phonics book as well as their regular reading book while we complete our school phonics scheme. Children should make sure to bring their reading folders in each day and put them in the reading pots inside of the classroom.
Please encourage the children to read for ten minutes per night.
On Monday the children will be given their spelling books. Spelling books should be returned every Monday morning. Every Monday/Tuesday I will provide the children with spellings to learn for a short spelling test on the following Monday. Maths homework will be given most weeks starting on Friday next week. This may be written piece of work, a game online or counting.
This term we are concentrating on counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s extending to 3’s and recall of doubles and halves to 20.
PE will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays this half term.
I will be available on the playground before and after school if you have any queries or need any support with homework etc.
I will be updating this page regularly (usually before Sunday night) with news about exciting things we have been doing in school, trips and any other information.
Finally, my email address Fgill@victoriaparkinf.co.uk. I will do my best to respond within 48 hours to any emails.
Thanks for a lovely week 2F!
Mrs Gill
