This week 2L went on a trip to Manchester city centre! We walked to the tram stop in Stretford and got the tram to St Peter's square. When we arrived we looked the statue of Emmaline Pankhurst and discussed why the statue was there and why it was important. Then after a quick snack we headed over to Manchester Art Gallery to have a closer look at Lowry paintings that we had been looking at in class. We all chose our favourite and discussed our reasons for why we had chosen that painting. The whole class behaved brilliantly and the trip really enhanced our learning and understanding of our topic on Manchester. A big thank you to our parent helpers who made sure that everyone could enjoy the trip safely and happily.
In Literacy we wrote about our trip and thought about how to properly use the past tense ("I saw" instead of "I seen" for example). In Maths we thought about how number bonds to ten could help us understand number bonds to 100. In Science we thought about the needs of animals and how we can look after them properly as pets.

2L have worked really hard this week! In Maths we looked at fact families, in particular how we can make two additions and two subtractions from one number fact (7+3=10, 3 + 7= 10, 10-3=7, 10-7=3) The class did well to understand this concept and did some great work. In literacy we looked at developing our vocabulary and alternative spellings of sounds such as kn, gn, air, are, ear, ere etc. We also looked at verbs and why they are important in a sentence. In topic we made posters about Stretford Public hall and talked about the range of emotions we experience each day during our PSHE lesson.
I have put homework onto purple mash again and next week's spellings are: gem giant magic giraffe energy jacket jar jog join adjust
We have our trip to Manchester on Tuesday morning, please make sure that you arrive on time for the start of the school day as we will be leaving shortly after registration. We will be back at school for lunch so there is no need to provide a snack.

This week in Year 2 we went on a visit to Stretford Public Hall as part of our topic. We learned about the history of the hall, that it was built by John Rylands and saved from demolition amongst other facts. We had a tour of the basement and spent time in the main hall doing some craft activities. The class were really well behaved throughout and enjoyed finding out more about their local area.
Back in school we carried on with out place value work in Maths and did some writing about Emmaline Pankhurst. We learned about the suffragettes and wrote about why they were so important in the history of Britain.
I will continue to put some activities on purple mash alongside the spellings in their spelling books for homework. These activities reinforce the learning we are doing in class so please try to spend some time accessing these resources.

We've had another great week in 2L. It has flown by! We carried on describing nocturnal animals and thinking about how to check our punctuation in literacy. In Maths we ordered numbers in different ways by putting them from smallest to biggest and by using the symbols < > and =. In topic we thought about how Manchester has changed over the past 100 years and started to draw some Lowry inspired pictures. In Science we looked at life cycles of animals, particularly frogs and butterflies who change their appearance significantly. We learned the word "Metamorphosis".
I am aware that some parents have had an issue with parent pay and consent for the trip to Stretford Public Hall. I will make sure that we get consent for your child before the trip if there is an issue.
I hope you have been able to access Purple Mash for the homework this week, again if there is an issue please let me know.

Hello, just a quick note to let you know that I have added some homework to purple mash for this week. The log in should be brought home in your child's reading record tonight.
We are lucky enough to have been invited to Stretford Public Hall next week to learn about its history so please can you give consent for the trip on ParentPay.
Also, I have told the class that we will do 'Show and Tell' on a Thursday afternoon. (At their request!) It is not compulsory and children should only bring something in if they want to. I have asked for the items to be something special or interesting and not just a toy from home.

We've had a good week in 2L. We spent time in literacy writing about nocturnal animals and continuing with our phonics. In Maths we focused on numbers to one hundred and where they belonged on a number line. We talked about how 5 is half way between 0 and 10 and that this can help with placing two digit numbers on unmarked number lines. In our topic work we looked at where Manchester is located in relation to other countries in the UK and in Art we started to look at the work of LS Lowry. In Science the class developed their knowledge of animal offspring and how some animals look completely different when they are born compared to the adult version of themselves.
I provided children with homework on Wednesday, as I will do most weeks from now on, and I would like for it to be returned by Tuesday the following week. I have also provided new spellings for the class and they are: write written wrote wrong wrap wrist wreck wrestle wriggle wren.
It was lovely to meet some of you at the meet the teacher meeting and I hope that it was informative.

We have had a great first full week back in 2L! We have been looking at the book 'All Through the Night' as part of our literacy lessons and thinking about people who work at night. In Maths we have been concentrating on place value and breaking numbers up into their tens and ones. Our topic this half term is 'Manchester' and we spent time talking about landmarks and facts we already knew about Manchester. If you have chance over the weekend, maybe chat to your child about what Manchester is famous for. It could be sport, art, music etc. In PE we had great dance and football sessions.
I have provided the class with a new spelling book and spellings to learn for a spelling test on Friday. Please feel free to use the book to practice in (one page per week please). We will do the test at the back of the book each week so please leave these pages blank.

Hello,
Just a quick note to say welcome to 2L and some brief information about reading and PE. Our PE sessions this half term will be on Tuesday and Thursday starting from next week.
In terms of books and home reading, the children's books will all hopefully have been given out by the start of next week and will be changed weekly. All children will have a phonics book as well as their regular reading book while we complete our school phonics scheme. Children should make sure to bring their reading folders in each day and put them in the reading slots outside of the classroomI will provide the class with homework, either online or in paper format, each Wednesday to be completed by the following Monday.
We will be having a ‘Meet the Teacher’ session on Thursday 17th September at 3.30 – 4. This will be an opportunity for you to have a bit more of an idea about life in Year 2. There will be an email reminder sent out closer to the time.
I will update the class page weekly with information about what we have been learning and photographs.
