Summer Fair - Sunday 12th July - 12 to 3pm

Summer 2

Tuesday 7th July

What a super sports day, today! 😊

Friday 3rd July

It has been a lovely week in 1G and the children have enjoyed reading Little Red and the Very Hungry Lion in our English lessons. We have been practising sentence writing and accurately punctuating them, as we predicted what might happen next in the story. In Maths we have been learning all about money, recognising coins and notes. In science we have continued to sort animals into categories of carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. In Health and Wellbeing, we have continued learning about how to keep safe in different situations. This week we have focused on how to cross the road safely. As you have seen we have also been busy in art and completed our collage silhouette paintings.

Next week

Sports day – Key Stage 1 (Year One and Two) is Thursday 9th July in the park (1.30-3pm). The children will need to come to school in their PE clothes on this day. They do not need their green book bags or reading folder on this day but please make sure they have their water bottles in school.

Friday 26th June

What a busy and HOT week it has been in 1G!

After visiting the zoo, we were inspired to write some poetry all about the animals we saw (and some we didn’t see!). We even had a go at reading it out loud and performing to each other. In art, we have started creating some silhouette paintings which we hope to complete next week.

We have also introduced sharing out an amount to make equal groups (division). We have shown the children to count a total amount and share it between a number of groups equally ("one for me, one for you.."). Please also see our games folder for more maths games to play.

Next week

Don't forget the children are not in school on Friday as it is an INSET day for the teachers.

Friday 19th June

What a busy week it has been in 1G! We have been so excited to learn about the animals that live in the savannah, that we have started using this knowledge to build our own Kenyan safari’s when playing in class 😊. In Geography we have compared how everyday life in Nairobi is similar to living in Stretford.

In science we found out what animals who live on the Masai Mara like to eat. To help consolidate their learning the children had to be scientists and investigate ‘poo’ left behind by animals to find out if they were carnivores, herbivores or omnivores (Miss Green tried to trick us by telling us it was real and we were surprised when we found out it wasn’t!). The children who chose to take part in the activity really enjoyed themselves and made great scientific detectives 😊.

In Maths we have introduced multiplication as counting equal groups, for example, 5 equal groups of 2, makes 10 altogether.  The children have worked hard on counting equal groups eg 2+2+2+2=8 or 4 groups of 2 = 8 (multiplication) as well. To support this, please practise counting in steps of 2, 5 and 10 at home. Here are some fun games where the children can also practise a variety of skills including number bonds to 10 and 20.

Next week

Don’t forget it’s Fun Day on Monday!

Monday 15th June

Today we went on our much-anticipated trip to Blackpool Zoo to look at the different animals. There was great excitement to be travelling on a double decker bus and even more excitement to be going on a motorway. After about five minutes of travelling, we had the inevitable ‘are we there yet?’ closely followed by ‘when are we having lunch?’. The children enjoyed the day immensely and luckily we had some lovely weather. Below are some pictures of the day including some of the animals we saw and the seagull who was quite interested in seeing what everybody had for lunch!

Friday 12th June

Welcome back to school everyone! I hope you all had a restful break. We have completed the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check and the children worked so hard, I am proud of each and every one of you! The results will be sent with the end of year report.

This week the children have been excited to start our new topic on Let’s Explore…Kenya! In Geography we have found out where Kenya is in the world and learnt about the weather and how the seasons are different to ours. In our English lessons we used a non-fiction book to find out some interesting facts about the animals that you might see on safari and wrote our own fact files. We also learnt about what it is like to live on the savannah by studying the Maasai tribe who live on the Masai Mara.

In maths we have started our topic on multiplication and division by counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and recognising odd and even numbers. You can help your child at home by counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s or solving questions such as, “I have 3 groups of 10, how many do I have altogether?” I have also sent home some homework today to help consolidate this work.

Trip to Blackpool Zoo on Monday 15th June

We are all excited and can’t wait to go on our class trip. Just a couple of things to remember. Please wear school uniform and sensible shoes for walking in (you can wear your trainers on this day if you wish). Please bring your packed lunch in a labelled disposable bag.

You will not need your green book bag or reading folder on this day.

Monday 8th June

Welcome back to school everyone! Just to let you know that PE this half term will be on Mondays and Fridays and the children can come to school in their PE kits on those days.

Spelling books will be sent home tonight with new spelling lists ready to be tested on Friday.
