Autumn1

This week we have been large-scale mark making. The children have loved it and this is the start of their handwriting journey! We take part in lots of these types of activities to build up muscles in our arms, shoulders and core - which lay the foundations for writing.

We have continued to explore feelings and emotions through the text The Longest Strongest Thread- a beautiful book. We have been talking about families and the love that connects us together.

In maths we have been counting - using pictures of different families to count how many people are in that family. Miss Kennedy, our lunchtime supervisor, chatted to the children about how there are 8 in her family and we found the number on the number line.

This week we enjoyed gymnastics in the hall! We are practising balancing, jumping and co-ordination in these sessions.

We are concentrating on large scale mark making- we have used big pieces of chalk, ribbons, paint sticks!

The children have enjoyed washing the babies in the water tray. This helps us to understand that we need to look after others-it also prompted lots of talk around families and especially siblings!

We have enjoyed the story 'We are Family'. We enjoyed a circle time where we chatted about who is in our family.

Wow, can you believe we're over halfway through the half-term?! The children are doing a fantastic job of settling in and I've been so proud of the progress they have made already.

We encourage your child to be independent. That means they are expected to post their name in the box at the beginning of the day, for self registration. They should try and hang up their own coat. They are allowed to access water at anytime throughout the day-we give gentle reminders about this. You may have noticed your child can put on their own coat- a massive skill accomplished by many in the nursery. We have a little rhyme to help-

Hood at your toes

Arms in

Over it goes

It doesn't always work, and some children are still working hard on this, but please encourage this at home too.

We have a lovely routine in nursery but sometimes we stop for things that interest us, like noticing a rainbow, listening to diggers outside the window or a cricket that is scaling the outdoor post!

We have had a lovely start to our Autumn Term. The children are settling well and we are establishing routines. The weather has been fairly kind and we have managed to enjoy lots of outdoor play.

We have started our topic and have been busy creating self-portraits. We have listened to the story "Nursery Not Today" and "Elmer".
