Week 6

Hello there R2 families!

It's been very busy, as always, in R2 HQ! What have we been up to?

In maths we have been learning about repeating patterns, which is a trickier concept for the children than we think. We copied patterns, then we continued patterns and then the children were asked to create their own repeated pattern, this was the trickiest bit. Maybe you could talk about and practise this at home, using objects from around the house or even at the park! Here is a humorous video about repeating patterns that you can watch together...

Patterns! | Mini Math Movies | Scratch Garden

This math video for kids is all about patterns! If you need help identifying patterns, predicting patterns, or practicing patterns, watch this fun educational primary math lesson video! Practice finding the core of the pattern, as well as AB patterns and ABC patterns.

In Drawing Club this week we have shared the Traditional story of The Three Little Pigs. We had a very enthusiastic response from the children when drawing a house that has been built out of crazy things like marshmallows, lego, bananas, beds, apples, oranges and even bicycle wheels! Drawing Club puts children in the driving seat to generate ideas, language, use imagination and develop drawings to develop pencil grip, formation of shapes and express ideas which will grow and develop into writing about our pictures. It's great and the children absolutely love it!

Our Topic this week has been around us looking after ourselves. We'll learn about eating healthy food, the importance of rest and exercise and talking about our feelings. This week we have talked about the importance of personal hygiene and we chatted about and practised good handwashing.

We're all really enjoying phonics and this week we have learnt 'm' and 'd'. Thanks for sharing the homework with your child yes In handwriting we are continuing with the Ladder Letters. We have practised 't' and 'u' and I have been blown away by the children's perseverance at getting the formation of their letters right. At home, if your child seems to be finding establishing a correct grip difficult, then please use this mnemonic...

How to hold a pencil - Nip, Flip, Grip Method (Tripod Grasp)

Lastly...

The children were great when having their individual photos taken this week. Everyone has been sent guidance on how to purchase their child's picture.

Some children are coming to school without a water bottle. Please make sure they do. Being hydrated year round is so important.

If your child has used any spare school uniform following an accident, please return them to school as our spare uniform is now running low.

Have a lovely weekend folks. Mrs B and I are looking forward to seeing all of your lovely faces on Monday morning laugh
