Week ending 15/10/21
Wow what amazing work has been produced this week in class. Take a look at the lovely handwriting. We really have been trying hard to make this fantastic.
Well done to all the children who are working hard at home learning their spellings. It’s really making a difference.A little reminder that spelling books need to be in school every Monday. We will test the children individually on Monday or this may roll over to Tuesday as we have 30 individual tests to complete. It takes a lot of time as I’m sure you can imagine! We will send the book back again As soon as possible and it should be returned completed the next Monday. Floppy's phonics sheets should be easy for the children to complete as we have already completed these in class and it’s a chance to show off their amazing work!
For our topic work this week in class we have taken some time to think about people less fortunate than ourselves as we enter the Harvest festival time of year. We have been learning new songs, having fun and it’s been like the X factor auditions.
As we approach half term I’ll be popping a note inside the reading record to give you some feedback on your child’s progress primarily in reading. You may have already received this.
We have been learning some new skills this week and have been calculating using coin values in maths. Please play pretend shop with items at home and real money. It really helps!
Week ending 8/10/2021
It was lovely to see 2F on Wednesday. We have been participating in gymnastics and football skils in PE this week.
In maths we were learning our halves and doubles. Please practice these at home doubles to 10+10 and halves to 1/2 of 20.
I’m really impressed by the children’s maths they are learning facts and enjoying working with larger numbers than one hundred.
Floppy’s phonics is going well and the children are following a daily routine of locating sounds in words and writing sentences in box provided. The revision and recap sheets sent home are a chance for the children to show off what they have learnt and imbed these sounds.
The children will be completing the phonic screen assessment in November so I will be sending home words to decode both real and “alien” if I think your child needs extra practice before the test.
Well done to the children who are learning their key word spellings these are very important and allow your child to write more fluently as they are not phonetically building up every word.
We will be looking at real life superheroes next week such as the police nurses etc and will be exploring the world map in more detail. We will also be moving on to look at Paddington Bear in London.
Week 3. Ending 19-9-21
We have been starting to explore real life superheroes this week from both the present and the past.
We took ourselves back in time to the 19th century and the famous lady with the lamp Florence Nightingale. Next week we will be completing art work and writing all about her.
Another week of Floppy’s phonics and we are starting to get more confident looking for sounds in words.
Maths this week has been exploring ordering numbers and 3D shapes.
The children have loved their PE and just a reminder to parents that PE is currently Wednesdays and Fridays for 2F. This may change but we will let you know a week ahead of any changes.
Week 2 12-9-21
Another fabulous week for 2F. What well behaved and polite children we have!
This week we have been continuing to test the children’s knowledge of the new Floppy phonics and you may have found some sounds to learn over the weekend in your child’s bag. If you don’t have any don’t worry.
In maths we have been looking at place value of two and three digit numbers and properties of 2 D shapes this week.
In English we have been focussing on sentence structure and making sure we punctuate our sentences correctly.
We have been talking about ways to improve our handwriting and it’s been fabulous progress so far.
Our current topic is superheroes and we made models of superheroes out of modelling clay.
we continued the Red riding hood music programme on BBC and it was really enjoyed by all.
The high light of the week has been our PE problem solving lesson and our football skills lesson. The children really enjoyed keeping fit and having fun.
My funniest moment was when I went out on the playground to see the long parachute being used like a Chinese dragon costume! Great imagination!
Welcome to 2F. 5/9/21
We have had a great first two days getting to know each other and the new year 2 routines.
What a lovely class you are!
We have spent some of the time completing some place value work in maths warming up our brains for looking at tens and ones next week and ordering numbers.
We have quite a few books in year 2 so we have been learning the names of them and it’s been fun putting our own belongings in our new personal drawer. We have a wallet with our own crayons, pencil, rubber and ruler and our own busy book and colouring books for rainy days.
We are finalising the PE dates and will be sharing this with you on Monday.
I hope you have a lovely weekend!
