Welcome back to Victoria Park Infant School

Week beginning 8th June 2020

In the area of mathematics this week we will focus on vehicles and movement.

Develop Maths from the story  Toot Toot Beep Beep by Emma Garcia.

Do lots of touch counting.  Ask questions such as:

How many different vehicles are there in the story.

How many wheels are there on each of the vehicles.

Which direction are the vehicles going in and how fast are they going?

Use the story to explore number recognition and counting skills.

Use sequencing vocabulary such as first, next, then, last etc.

Make your own road map using paper or card.  Line up your toy cars.

Which car is at the front, which car is at the back, which cars are in the middle.

Encourage problem solving by asking questions such as how many left if we take two away or add two more?

Look at different sized vehicles.  Encourage the use of comparative language to describe the vehicles e.g. big, small, bigger, biggest, small, smaller, smallest etc.

Have a go at writing numbers.  You could make a number for some of your cars.

Make your own number tracks

Other maths activities to try

Look at car number plates.  What numbers do you have on your car number plate.

look out of your window for five minutes.  Count how many cars pass by.
