Monday 22nd February

Hello everyone and welcome back. I hope you enjoyed your week off and did lots of fun activities together.

English and Topic

We will be starting our new topic tomorrow but for today we are going to be learning about Pancake Day. I thought it would be nice to learn about something that happened last week and because some of you will have experienced it for yourself.  Here is some information about Shrove Tuesday.

Today's activity is to write two facts about what you have learnt from the Christian celebration of Shrove Tuesday.

Your sentences might read something like this:

Pancake day is when milk and eggs are used up.

Shrove Tuesday is the day before Lent begins.

Before the holidays you may remember in English we were looking at the story of the Three Little Pigs and then the story of The Three Horrid Pigs and the Big Friendly Wolf, well today’s story has a wolf and pancakes in it!

Mr Wolf's Pancakes

Well after reading the story I don’t think he’s a very friendly wolf, do you?

Today we are going to write some sentences about how Mr Wolf was feeling towards the different characters in the story using the word ‘because’ to make our sentences longer. It might be easier if you think of some words to describe how the wolf was feeling first and make a list. An example of a sentence might be…

Mr Wolf was sad because Chicken Licken wouldn’t help read the book.

I have put some pictures below if you want to use them or you could watch the video again and use your own parts of the story you want to write about.

For extra fun you might want to design (or make!) your perfect pancake smiley

Phonics

Let’s start our lesson with our warm-up to recognise our sounds and tricky words. If you already know all your sounds and tricky words, you can skip this bit.

Today we are learning another way to pronounce a grapheme.

Lesson 6 - y fly

Word of the day

Today’s word of the day is …

when

Remember you can practise using it in your sentences when you are writing or put it on a piece of paper and display it around the house to practise reading or even challenge your family to see who can spell it from memory the fastest!

Maths

Before the holiday we had started to count in our 2’s and 10’s using our fingers. Can you remember how?

Counting in 10's

Counting in 2's

For maths this week, we are starting a new topic all about shape. Miss Charlton introduces the different 3D shapes below and finds some everyday objects with the same shape. She also makes a link to the singing Walrus song. It didn’t work for me on the video, so I’ve put the link below just in case you need it.

Today’s activity should be done practically. I know most of you will not have wooden 3D shape blocks at home, so like Miss Charlton can you go on a shape hunt around your house and find everyday objects with the same shape? You could even use these objects to make the train as suggested on the sheet. Some of these shapes may be a little bit tricky to find but it’s always fun to try and have a go. Why don’t you photograph what you find and send it to me today 😊.
