**IMPORTANT** Please remember to apply suncream before your child comes to school and remember sun hats and water bottles.

Each Thursday your child will bring home their new reading books and phonic homework sheet to complete in pencil. The phonic reading books give the children an opportunity to practise their reading skills. The books can be read multiple times during the week giving the children the chance to build up their confidence when reading independently. We ask that each child aims to read at home every day for around ten minutes each time.

As we are continuing to progress through our phonics scheme, the phonic sheets we are sending home now for homework have a slightly different format. There is now a lot more emphasis on practising reading skills and spotting sounds in words and understanding what the word means. There is also a chance to practise sentence writing however you may wish to use an additional space/ piece of paper so that your child can write longer sentences using the conjunctions ‘and’ or ‘because’ like we do in class. There is also an opportunity to talk to your child about why the same words have different spellings e.g. see, sea or beech, beach.

Below is the link to the phonics and early reading section from our website which you may find useful.

We will also be sending home a weekly spellings list to learn in a red books on a Thursday. The children will have one week to learn the spellings for a test the following Thursday. Please keep the red book in their reading folder. There is also a practise sheet to help with learning the spellings (that lasts for two weeks). There is a copy below if it gets lost.

Thank you for your continuing support,

Miss Green and Mrs Hermans
