Week 6 week beginning 7th February

Hello Reception 1 families!

Well just like all weeks in reception 1, the last week of Spring 1 half term has been very busy. It has been children's mental health week this week so we have talked, listened to stories, discussed our feelings and emotions and what we can do to calm ourselves down. Miss Edwards and I were very impressed with how the children could talk about many feelings and emotions and how they would feel in particular scenarios. With the children we talked about how to calm ourselves down when we are feeling frustrated. The children enjoyed making a squishy with a friend using a balloon and some water beads and they especially enjoyed squeezing it! The children created collage love hearts for somebody they love and enjoyed some finger painting.

On Friday we celebrated 'act of kindness day' organised by our PFTA by talking about when the children have been kind to somebody of if somebody has been kind to them. I scribed what the children said and we have created a lovely ' Tree of Kindness' on the classroom door. See the photo below. The children came in to school wearing pink and red clothes. It was lovely to see them all so happy and looking colourful. Thank you to the PFTA who gave each child a pack of Love Heart sweets. To finish our half term we enjoyed a disco and a picnic. The children made their own love heart shaped jam sandwich and enjoyed a few other treats.

Next half term our topic is 'Once Upon a Time...' It would be lovely if you could share some traditional tales with your child over the half term holiday. We will continue to progress on with our maths and phonics. Each child has a new reading book and phonics sheets to practise and complete. Please remember to date and comment in your child's yellow reading record book.

Miss Edwards and I hope you all have a super half term break and we look forward to seeing you soon, ready to start Spring 2 half term.

Take care

Mrs Spooner x
