Welcome back to Victoria Park Infant School

Week 2 week beginning 2nd May

Hello everybody!

Reception 1 have had a great week.  We shared the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. The children enjoyed listening to and watching a video of the story. They were fantastic at remembering what foods the caterpillar ate on each day. This helped them to sequence the foods in the correct order. We have learnt about the life cycle of a butterfly and hopefully we will soon have a delivery of caterpillars that we are going to feed and house. This will give the children first hand experience of seeing the life cycle of a butterfly.

The children have completed many activities this week indoors and outdoors linked to the story.

They have made cress caterpillars and we will hopefully see some growth next week (fingers crossed). The children have painted symmetrical butterflies and thought about what foods they would like to eat if they were the caterpillar.

The sunflower seeds that we planted before the holidays are growing nicely. They are on the windowsill in the classroom so the children can see the development.

In maths we have begun to gain deeper understanding of numbers 11-20.

In phonics we have learnt the sounds 'ee' as in eel and 'igh' as in knight. Please can you help your child to complete their phonics sheets in their reading folder.

We have started athletics with Mr Shingler and continue to develop control of the ball with Sam and Steve.

PE will continue to be on Wednesday and Thursday for this half term.

Well done to Iggy who is our medal winner this week.

Please can I remind you to date and comment in your child's reading record book when you have practiced  at home.

Please enjoy looking through our photos and I hope you all have a lovely weekend,

Take care
