Tuesday 23rd February
Good morning everyone, well done for your hard work yesterday! I was sent some really super sentences!
Let's start with phonics today. Please practise the phase 3 tricky words first. All of the children in Year 1 should be able to read this set of words. If you would like to extend your learning, you can practise spelling them. If you find them a bit tricky then please make sure you practise daily - this video is always in our 'help with reading' page.
Here are two videos about the phase 5 split digraph i_e. 😊
Topic
Now today is really exciting as we are starting our new topic - 'On Safari in Kenya'. Hmmm... what does safari mean? Where is Kenya?? Let's find out together!
You will need to get on an aeroplane to visit the country of Kenya. We live in the United Kingdom which is in the continent of Europe. Kenya is a country in the continent of Africa.
What animals did you see? Where were they living (their habitat)? Why was there so much sunshine?
Most animals live in the grasslands but some live in the forest and water areas as well. It is warm all year round in Kenya which is why there is so much sunshine.
When people go on holiday to Kenya they want to see these animals in their habitats. People do this by going on safari in an open topped car with a guide to show them the best places to see the animals.
Now we know where Kenya is and what we expect to find there, we’re off on our journey. You will need to pack a suitcase with the things you might need to go on safari and remember to pack clothes that are suitable for the weather in Kenya.
I have given you some suggestions but you can always draw your own ideas.
English
Here is one of my favourite stories, it is about a girl called Handa who lives in a village in Kenya.
Now, can you match the animal pictures to the fruit that they pinched below, and put them in the order that the animals appeared?
Then, think of an adjective for the different fruit e.g. juicy mango, sweet pineapple and write it on the line.
Doing this will help you with your tasks over the next few days so be sure to keep them handy!
Maths
Let's start today by practising counting in 5s.. can you do it to 50?
Here is your 3D shape lesson for today, with a video to remind you of the shape names and a worksheet to complete.
Please can you let me know how you are finding 3D shape work and counting in 5s.
Physical Activity
Here is the latest session from The Wire Gymnastics club.
That's all for today!
See you on Zoom at 1.30pm today if you can make it!
