Hello R2 Families
We began the week with a whole school 'Safer Internet' assembly with Mrs O'Connell. The children were very engaged and could tell me all about it afterwards.
This week we have been learning about the Chinese New Year. It's the Year of the Dragon and the mere mention of dragons brought about lots of excitement! We've been very crafty this week creating cool dragon hats that we wore at our Dragon Dance on Friday (more about that later), dragon puppets and Chinese lanterns. In maths we learnt about ordinal numbers and following the Chinese New Year Story we ordered the animals that took part in the big race. Our writing has been planned around Chinese New Year to and I love that the children are so willing to have a go at independently writing unfamiliar words as their phonic knowledge deepens.
We've been getting green fingered this week too! Each of the children has planted a spring bulb in the flower bed outside our classroom. We are looking forward to taking care of them and watching them grow into beautiful blooms!
On Friday morning we joined nursery and R1 for a Dragon Dance in the hall. This was a noisy affair but such good fun. The children got to experience the sights and the sounds of this lovely annual festival.
In your child's book bag you'll find a lovely card to celebrate how much they love you. We hope that everyone feels loved every day but on Valentines Day, your little person wants to say I Love You
After the holidays, as part of our topic 'What a Wonderful World', we will begin to learn about animal groups and habitats.
Mrs Riley and I hope you all have a fun half term holiday and we look forward to seeing you all back to school for more exciting learning and fun!
Take Care
Mrs Cook x
