Reading
As in the spring term, your child will bring home reading books and phonics
homework every week. The shared reading books give the children an opportunity to practise their reading skills with support from an adult as necessary, it also provides a chance to talk about they have read with an adult. The books can be read multiple times during the week giving the children the chance to recognise unfamiliar words and build up their confidence when reading independently.
We ask that every child aims to read at home at least 3 times a week for around ten minutes each time. Please continue to also practise the phonics books which help to consolidate our class learning, and the phonics homework sheets that are sent home in the reading folders weekly.
The children are now quite familiar with the phonic sheets, so as an extra activity they can write a sentence using one or two words from the list on the sheet. We are continuing to practise writing sentences in class using the conjunction 'and' or 'because'.
Spellings
The weekly spellings lists are in a blue book in each child’s plastic homework wallet. The children will have a week to learn the spellings for a test the following Thursday.
Please keep the blue book in the wallet every day. There is also a practise sheet (with an explanation) to help with learning. We would really appreciate your help in encouraging the children to learn these common words. Knowing how to spell them really improves their level of writing.
Thank you for your continuing support,
Mrs O'Connell and Mrs Al-Noah
