Welcome back to Victoria Park Infant School

Week 1 Week Beginning 1st November

Hello everyone!

I hope that you have all had a lovely half term break. This next half term is going to be busy and fun as we work our way through our topic "Let's Celebrate"

We started this week by discussing Halloween and the children talked about what they had dressed up as. They also enjoyed listening to the story Meg's Eggs by Helen Nicoll and Jan Pienkowski and talking about the spells in the story and what ingredients they would like to put in their own spells. They came up with some great ideas. Following on from that the children also designed their own pumpkin faces.

In class we have also been finding out about the Sikh and Hindu festival of Diwali. The children have found out about how it is celebrated and they have coloured in a Rangoli pattern and made a diva lamp from clay. It was a great activity to develop their fine motor skills (see the photos below).

The children have continued to work hard with their Floppy's Phonics. This week we have learnt c and k. Please encourage your children to practise recognising and writing them correctly and please continue to comment in the yellow reading record book to let me know how they are getting on.

I maths we have been gaining a greater knowledge of 1, 2 and 3 and beginning to practise forming numerals correctly.

On Friday we had a our celebration assembly. The whole school sang happy birthday to Penny and Amelie R and we have a new medal winner - Hareem. She has been working hard to learn her sounds and always does her best when working with an adult. well done Hareem! To celebrate Bonfire night the children discussed firework safety, created some fantastic chalk firework pictures and made some chocolate apple slice lollies. They were yummy!

If you have not already done so, please email me with your request for parent's evening senco@victoriaparkschool.co.uk

Have a look at the slideshow for this weeks photos.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Take care
