Week 3

Hello Reception 1 families!

What a fantastic and very busy week we have had. During week 3 the children have all settled into our daily routine very well. You would think they have been in school for a lot longer than a few weeks! You should all be very proud of how they have adjusted to school life very quickly. Miss Edwards and I have been observing the children this week, seeing how thy have gelled together as a class, the new friendships they have made, their kindness towards each other and their willingness to share their news and experiences with us. We have been finding out about each other, looking at similarities and differences and understanding that we are all special and unique in our own ways!

The children have enjoyed showing their family photographs to their friends and explaining who lives in their home with them. We have also had a look at the different types of homes that people can live in.

Making the must of the sunny weather this week, we have spent a lot of time in our outdoor area developing our physical skills, imaginative and creative skills, social skills and having lots of fun playing with new friends. The children are so imaginative and it has been a pleasure to watch them create their own games using their imaginations.

Next week we look forward to starting our PE lessons on Tuesday (see attached letter), starting a new topic using an exciting new story book. Reception 1 have had such an awesome week that they managed to get all 10 marbles in our jar working as a class team. Therefore on Friday afternoon we had chocolate chip muffins with our drinks sat outside enjoying the sun.

Have a look at some of this week's fun!

Letters sent home this week

Daily Phonics

We learn phonics using Jolly Phonics, alongside the governments non-statutory guidance Letters and Sounds. Jolly Phonics is a wonderful resource in helping the children to make correspondences between the letters and their sounds. Please find below a web link to the Jolly Phonics songs and actions in video format. We work through the letters and sounds at a rate of one new sound (phoneme) a day during our daily phonics session. We will be sending home sound fans so you can help your child learn these new sounds. The sounds sent home will be matched to the individual child, containing the next set of sounds that they are ready to learn. Please can we ask that the fans are kept in your child's book bags as we also use them in school.

We hope you enjoy the Jolly Phonics songs and actions.
