Phonics and reading
Each Thursday your child will bring home their new reading books and phonic homework sheet to complete in pencil. The phonic reading books give the children an opportunity to practise their reading skills. The books can be read multiple times during the week giving the children the chance to build up their confidence when reading independently. We ask that each child aims to read at home to an adult every day for around ten minutes and that the adult writes in their orange reading record book when they have done so.
As we are continuing to progress through our phonics scheme, the phonic sheet we are sending home for homework has a slightly different format. There is now a lot more emphasis on practising reading skills, understanding what the word means and spelling. Please complete them in PENCIL and put them back in the reading folder ready to be marked for the following Thursday.

Spellings
We will continue to send home a weekly spellings list to learn in their red books on Thursdays. The children will have one week to learn the spellings for a test the following Thursday. Please keep the red book in their reading folder. There is also a practise sheet to help with learning the spellings (that lasts for two weeks). There is a copy below if it gets lost.
Thank you for your continuing support,
Miss Green
