Welcome back to Victoria Park Infant School

Week beginning 26th April

Well done for a super week 1C! We have been busy practising our addition and subtraction skills, being sure to count accurately to find the correct answer. If you would like to continue this at home we recommend playing Hit the Button (addition and subtraction in the number bonds page). How many questions can you answer correctly in one minute?!

We have also been learning about where materials come from, and how some of the things we use everyday are made. The children were really interested in glass blowing!

We have also written some great sentences about our new fiction book, 'Man on the Moon'. The children are becoming very skilled at using 'and' and 'because' in their sentences. ðŸ™‚

This week we were sad to hear that Micheal Collins has passed away. He was one of the astronauts on the Apollo 11 mission, it has been so interesting to learn about him and that famous moment in history.

We are very pleased with how the children are developing their concentration when working on tasks. They are becoming more able to stay focused and work independently . With writing ,we are encouraging them to remember to always use finger spaces and write on the line.

We have started to learn about Islam as our RE topic for this term. This week the children found out about mosques as places of worship. They drew some great pictures!

The children had their spelling test on Friday. It was great be able to give gold stars to those who got them all correct. Well done to them and to those who nearly got full marks. We hope they can remember to spell these words in their writing tasks. There will be a new set of spellings to begin learning next week.

Thank you for the donations of underwear/ joggers for us to keep as spares in school, if you are having a clear out this weekend please do bear us in mind.

Next week: Mr Shingler's PE lesson will be on TUESDAY 4th May instead of Friday, just for one week. Please remember to wear 'comfy bottoms' and trainers, with the usual school uniform (yellow top and green jumper) on Tuesday.

We will speak to you for Parent's Evening on Thursday 6th May. Please check your emails for appointment times and do contact us if there are any issues.

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend!

Love,

Mrs O'Connell and Mrs Al-Noah Xx
