Monday 8th February

Hi everyone, I hope you have had a lovely weekend!

Well done for reading books at home and online including the Get Epic website! We have now read 47 books as a class! smiley

Let's start today with our phonics work. In Year 1, tricky word reading is really important as there are some words where our phonic knowledge just does not work! So please check you can read the phase 5 tricky words by joining in with Miss Green's video below. If there are any words you can't read, please practise them every day (the video will always be in our 'help with reading' page).

Phase 5 tricky words

Here is a video about the 'au' sound with me, you will need a pencil and paper.

English

Before we start our work today, here is a fun challenge - can you guess the traditional tale or character from the descriptions?

Now back to the Three Little Pigs. In some versions of the tale they scared the wolf away at the end by burning his bottom! This means the wolf is now ON THE LOOSE! When we are looking for somebody, we need to make a WANTED poster like the examples below.

When we are urgently looking for somebody, we need to have a really good description of what they look like and a picture too! Can you make your own WANTED poster for the wolf today? You will need to use describing words to let the reader know who to look for! Don't forget to describe the naughty thing the wolf has done and why he is wanted!

You can use the layout below or design your own. Please can you email me this work for today. heart

laugh Quite fittingly, today's word of the day is..

Topic

For the last two weeks we have found out about what it is like inside a Gurdwara (a special place where Sikhs go to pray and come together as a community) and the important role Guru Granth Sahib plays in naming a baby. Today we are going on an aeroplane journey to the other side of the world, to Amritsar in India to look at an important place and find out why it is important to Sikhs. The building we are going to look at is called the Golden Temple which is a Sikh Gurdwara. Many Sikhs make a pilgrimage to the Golden Temple. A pilgrimage is a journey made to a special place.

Watch this travel video to find out what it is like inside the Golden temple.

Now use the quiz to see if you can remember some of the facts you have learnt today. Can you beat my score?

Physical activity

Here is a fun song for you today! Can you remember your left and right? See if you can get everyone at home to join in too for a 3 minute stretch!

Well done for all your hard work today! Don't forget to check the story videos for the end of your day (where you find this week's daily pages) and Education City too.
