Help with writing
In school the children usually use their word mat to help them use the correct spellings for familiar words. The mat also has a copy of the alphabet and phonemes learnt in class to help spell any words that are not on the mat (by segmenting them into sounds). This all helps with the children gaining confidence when writing.
