Spring Term Homework

Phonics and reading

Each Tuesday your child will bring home their new reading book and phonic homework sheet. The phonic reading books give the children an opportunity to practise their reading skills. The 'shared' reading books are to be read together with an adult.

Please regularly hear your child read at home and help them to practise their reading skills - we ask that families aim for 10 minutes every day. This support at home is vital to help build your child's skills, confidence, fluency and enjoyment.

As we are continuing to progress through our phonics scheme, the phonic sheet we are sending home for homework has a slightly different format. There is now a lot more emphasis on practising reading skills, understanding what the word means and spelling. Please complete them in PENCIL and put them back in the reading folder ready to be marked for the following Tuesday.

Below is the link to the phonics and early reading page on our website which you may find helpful.

Spellings

We will now send home a list of spellings to learn each week. The children will have one week to learn the spellings for a check up test the following Tuesday. The first test will be on 9th January. This is an informal check to help motivate children to learn their list, they will then be able to use the correct spellings in their writing which will improve their work and help their learning.  Please keep the red book in their reading folder.

There is also a practise sheet to help with learning the spellings. Here is a copy in case it gets lost.

Thank you for your continuing support, we are looking forward to another enjoyable term!
