Welcome back to Victoria Park Infant School

Week 5

Hello Everyone and Kung Hei Fat Choy!

We have had a lovely and a very busy week at R2 HQ! We pushed our 'Toys' topic aside and had a mini topic about Chinese New Year 2022 and the Year of the Tiger. We have shared facts about how this festival is shared around the world and we shared the story 'The Great Race'. The children have discovered their own Chinese Zodiac sign and have joined in with making some lovely crafts. We have carefully collaged tiger faces, created folded and paper chain dragons and have even tried our hands at writing Chinese numbers. The children enjoyed learning about lucky money envelopes and made one of their own. I hope they enjoyed their fortune cookie and that their magic lucky Chinese coin made it's way home safely!

Alongside this, we have been busy in maths mastering numbers 6, 7 and 8. The children are mastering the number facts for these numbers. We have also been learning to find one more and one less with these numbers. We continue to develop essential mathematical skills too like counting accurately too. Here is a link to a counting game, the children will practise counting out amounts from a larger set, recognising numerals and number words.

In phonics we have been learning about reading and writing words that contain the phonemes x and y. When doing the x and y worksheet at home, please pay extra attention to the formation of these letters and remind your child to sit each letter of the line correctly.

Jessica is this week's medal winner! Jessica deserves the medal because she is an awesome role model in our class, she is well mannered, helpful, very sensible  and she gives everything 100%. Well done Jess!

Next week is the last week of term (bonkers!) It is also 'Random Act of Kindness Week' which coincides with 'Well Being Wednesday' at school. So, we will be talking about what it means to be kind and how we can look after our bodies and minds in order to feel tip top! Here is a note from our lovely PTFA about something happening on 11th Feb, the last day of term...

Please look out for a recent email from Mrs Walkden about the PTFA event. Here is a template of the activity that you can do at home for Kindness Day...

So as well as doing all things loving, happy, healthy and kind this coming week, we will be learning about the phoneme z in phonics, making valentines day cards for the special people we love and in maths we'll embark upon early addition by combining 2 sets to find a total.

It just remains for me to say have a lovely weekend and enjoy some photos from this week. Miss Hodgson and I cannot wait to see your smiling faces on Monday morning!
