Thursday 25th July
I would just like to start by saying a big thank you from myself and Miss Ryde for our lovely gifts, vouchers and cards. We are really touched and each one means a lot.
If you are looking for something to do this summer, the annual reading challenge (at the library) is called Marvellous Makers all about being creative in lots of different ways.
We hope you have an amazing summer and Mrs Gill will be glad to see you join 2F on Tuesday 3rd September.
Lots of love from Mrs O'Connell xx
Friday 19th July
Wow what another fantastic week! We have been learning to tell the time to o'clock and half past the hour in Maths. If you log on to Education City there are games in the 'homework' page to consolidate this learning instead of paper homework.
We will collect the reading books and any outstanding library books on Monday.
We have also had our final PE lessons and spelling tests this week. I just want to say a HUGE well done for EVERYONE'S hard work learning to spell the Year 1 tricky words and words linked to our phonics sounds. I know it hasn't been easy but the children's efforts have paid off and they are using the correctly spelt words in their writing now. All of the children's workbooks will come home in book bags next week so you can see all of their fantastic work!
We are so proud of the children's progress and cannot believe next week will be the last week in Year 1! Today the children have enjoyed FUN FILLED FRIDAY and also visited Mrs Gill for a session in their Year 2 classroom.
As usual we have been working hard on phonics, writing, maths, computing and science this week. If you would like to have a look at the White Rose 1 Minute App (it's free!) over the summer holidays, that will help to consolidate key maths skills and it comes highly recommended from ourselves and Mrs Gill.
And finally we had some fun dancing to Waka Waka (This Time for Africa). I've linked it below if you'd like to have a go at home!
I will see you on Monday for our final week in Year 1. As Thursday is the last day together in Year One, the children are allowed to bring in their own toy but nothing too large, precious, expensive or electrical please.
Lots of love, Mrs O'Connell x
Week ending 12th July
Over the past couple of weeks the children have been learning about money and recognising coins. Here is a game we have enjoyed if you'd like to play again at home.
We have also enjoyed a session with Lancashire County Cricket Club, there are photos below.
Here is a link to where to find the school calendar dates, and the school dinner menu, should you need them.
This week we will have our last spelling test, and our last reading book change on Tuesday.
See you at the summer fair! Fingers crossed for dry weather.

Week ending 28th June
Wow what a week! As well as practising lots of subtraction skills, and learning about how children live in Kenya, we also took part in sports day on Wednesday. Thank you to the grown ups who came to support us, the children had a wonderful time.
Next week: Don't forget there is an INSET day on Friday 5th July so only the staff will be in school on that day.

Tuesday 25th June
Today we have been on our much anticipated Year One trip to Blackpool Zoo! The children were very excited to see the animals, and we all have all chosen our favourites. Everyone was very well behaved - apart from the cheeky seagulls! I've added some photos below.
I hope everyone has a good rest tonight, ready for the rest of the week.

Week ending Friday 21st June
We have really enjoyed reading the book Handa's Surprise this week - see the video below if you'd like to enjoy it at home. We have been busy practising addition and subtraction skills in Maths.
In Science we have learnt whether animals are herbivores, carnivores, or omnivores according to what they eat. We were sent some 'poo' samples to investigate for ourselves (Mrs O'Connell tried to trick us, it wasn't really poo!)
In PE we have practised our throwing and catching skills, see the photographs below.
We are looking forward to the trip on Tuesday, and Sports Day on Wednesday. Please see your emails for further details.
As we will be out all day, your child will not need to bring their green book bag or reading folder in on Tuesday. We shall change reading books on Monday, and spellings will be on Wednesday.
It looks like the weather is (finally!) going to be warm next week. Please ensure your child has a water bottle to use in school every day, as well as a hat, and sun cream on in the morning.
On Wednesday we enjoyed our Euro '24 football tournament, organised by Mrs Gill and Mr Cartwright. Everyone had lots of fun trying their best for their team, and cheering on each other. Well done to the winning team - Italy!
Thank you for your continued support, Mrs O'Connell
Friday 14th June
Welcome back 1C! Wow we have a busy half term ahead. We are starting our topic called Let's Explore... Kenya! linking to our trip to the zoo in Week 3.
Here is our curriculum update so you can read what we have planned for this half term, a paper copy has gone home in book bags this week too.
This week we have also sent home spelling books, and new reading books. Thank you for finishing reading books over the half term break, the children have taken part in the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check this week and they have all worked very hard, well done 1C!
The children's opportunity to visit the school library will continue to be on Wednesdays.
Show and Tell - We really enjoy talking about our special items or showing pictures that the children have created in 1C. However, in the last few weeks we have often run out of time so in order to keep this opportunity extra special, we have decided to encourage the children to show just one item or picture each half term. The children have responded well to this and love hearing what each other have to say.
Zoo Trip - Please send your child in school uniform on the day of our trip.
Sports Day - Key Stage1 (Year One and Two) have pencilled in Wednesday 26th June for our sports afternoon in the park. The children will need to come in their PE clothes on that day. As the weather is unpredictable at the moment, this date could possibly change, look out for email updates and more information on this.
Don't forget - there's an INSET day on Friday 5th July - only staff will be in on that day.
Below you will find photographs of our fantastic DT work from last term, and a folder of the children's animated aliens for you to enjoy!
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs O'Connell x
