Welcome back to Victoria Park Infant School

Week beginning 22nd June 2020

Get ready to enter Hogwarts.

Watch the following clip from the first film on the link below.

I would like you to imagine that you are on that train with Harry and his friend. You are going to write a creative, short piece of writing. Some of the things your writing needs to include-

  • Writing in the first person
  • Writing in the present tense
  • Punctuation that has been learnt so far . , !?
  • Adjectives
  • Adverbs
  • Try and include some more sophisticated punctuation that may be new to you, such as speech marks " " and an ellipsis ... - you will have seen these in your reading books and we looked at them in school, although you may have forgotten-it was a little while ago!

When you have written your piece I would like you to spend some time reviewing it, which is what we would do in school now. Have you made any spelling mistakes? Have you kept in the correct tense throughout? Have you remembered to include interesting punctuation? Is your handwriting neat? Have fun and who is going to be the next JK Rowling?

This week in English we thought that we would also recap on different types of sentences and ask you to try and include them in your writing. There are four different kinds of sentence:

  • statements
  • questions
  • exclamations
  • commands

Questions and exclamations have their own special kind of punctuation. Can you remember what they are?

The powerpoint will remind you about each one and let you practise  recognising each type of sentence. There is a fun writing activity at the end. You can write it on a piece of paper and hopefully send your teacher a copy of it. We would love to read them!

If you would like more practise have a go at the activities below. There are three different activity sheets – you can choose which one you want to do.
