Welcome back to Victoria Park Infant School

Week beginning 18th May 2020

This week, in the area of Understanding of the World we will continue our ‘materials’ topic by investigating natural materials focusing on fruits that have been grown from a seed.  We will focus on our main task for this week which is making fruit salad.

Discussion Points for making fruit salad and exploring different fruits:

How a fruit grows from a seed into a plant or tree.

Parts of a fruit, fruit tree or fruit plant – learn new vocabulary such as root, trunk, branch, leaf, blossom, fruit, peel, skin, pip.

What a plant needs for growth – soil for food, sunlight, water

How different fruits originate from different parts of the world with different climates.

What type of a shop we buy fruit from (green grocers, supermarket, market)

Colour, shape and size of fruit.

Parts of a fruit tree. Take a look at the inside of fruit.

Take a look into Mr Vail's garden pond.  This week we have a different view.  Look deeper into the pond rather than the edge of the pond.

Watch closely and you will see a water flea! The tadpoles look so happy and peaceful!

This is a picture of a water flea, look closely in the pond to see if you can find one.

Look closely into the pond. What can you see see?
