We have had a busy two weeks leading up to Easter.
The children learnt all about Easter; they enjoyed making Easter cards and Easter baskets and were delighted to see that the Easter Bunny had hopped into the nursery fill their Easter baskets with Easter eggs.
Last week was science week in school. The nursery children took a nature walk around the infant school play ground to find out what trees and plants were growing, to see the bug hotel, the water feature, the daffodils growing in wellie boots and lots more!
Mrs Hart took the children outside to take part in a BIG bubble experiment and each child made a seedling glove which they have now taken home to observe and wait to see what happens next.
Friday was treat day - the children took part in an Easter Egg Hunt and had great fun riding on scooters when the scootfit company came into school.
Enjoy looking at the pics taken over the last fortnight.
Week ending 25th March 2022
This week the children made Mothers Day cards and learnt a Mothers Day song. We talked about Mothers and why our 'Mums' are special.
We continued to develop narrating and mathematical skills with the story set 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' by Eric Carle. This book is used to teach the children the days of the week, one to one counting of different fruit and the life cycle of a butterfly.
The children did very well in dance with Mr Shindler. I hope you enjoy watching the video of the completed Pinocchio dance. I was very impressed with how all the children joined in and how well they mastered the dance routine.
Pinocchio
The children are having fun in our newly set up Garden Centre role play area.
They have been sorting and counting garden tools and money, mark making to take orders and being imaginative making up hanging baskets and arranging plants.
Outside the children enjoyed setting up picnics, playing with our toy barbecue, play food and tea set.
Week ending 18th March 2022
During this week we have had a mathematical focus.
Our maths has been based on the story book 'We're Going on an Egg Hunt, by Laura Hughes. This delightful Easter story is similar in some ways to the well known book 'We're going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen. The children used prepositional language to retell the story in their own words and joined the bunnies in the story to lift up the flaps to find and count ten eggs.
During outdoor play the children experimented with 'kinetic sand' which is a great sensory activity. In addition to being therapeutic it helps develop fine motor skills.
Week ending 11th March 2022
This week we set up our mud kitchen. The children experimented with a range of utensils and engaged in pretend and messy play. They had great fun cooking with mud and water.
Mud kitchens help children to develop fine motor skills, role play, exploration, and social skills.

This week with World Book day being on the Thursday we focussed on the well known author Pat Hutchins. We shared three farmyard story books based on the character Rosie the hen along with a wide range of Story book resources. The three books we looked closely at were:
Rosies Walk
Where Oh Where is Rosie's Chick
We're Going On a Picnic
The children played imaginatively with characters from the story books and with farm animals. They are becoming more confident to retell a story and to make up their own stories. They enjoyed making farm animal sounds.
The children really enjoyed dressing up for world book day and sharing a range of books.
Thank you for your World Book Day donations.
DANCE LESSON 22nd February
The children all joined in dance and are quickly picking up the dance routine
Week ending 25th February 2022
With the relaxing of Covid rules we have been able to return to how things used to be in the nursery.
We have been able to re introduce dressing up clothes, dolls, soft furnishings and a wider range of resources for the children to choose from.
We have filled up our sandpit once again and the children have had great fun playing together in it!
We made a good start on our new topic 'Spring and On the Farm'. The children experimented in compost and planted cress seeds.
We learnt about growing potatoes, practised counting potatoes, sang the nursery rhyme one potato two potato and finally we used potatoes to print with.
