Welcome back to Victoria Park Infant School

Week beginning 11th May 2020

This week in the area of Literacy we will explore a range of natural materials found at the seaside.

Set up a seaside café with aprons, tea towels, tea sets and real or pretend food.   In the nursery we use food made from a range of materials including play dough food , knitted food, plastic and wooden food with sandwich sets, cakes, ice creams and ice lollies.  We provide a till with money, jugs for drinks, plastic cups and paper plates to develop role play.

Encourage the children to look at and read menus and to make marks for writing e.g. to take orders and to write out the bill.

Draw seaside pictures. Ask the children to name their work on the top left hand corner of their paper and to attempt to write about their work.

Make a postcard. On the front draw a seaside picture and on the back try to write a message.  Remember to write the name of who your postcard is going to and write your name to say who your postcard is from.

Praise all your child’s attempts to write.  Scribe underneath the marks they make so that they can see the correct letter formation.

Listen to this seaside story it is one of my favourites.
