Welcome back! We hope you all had a fantastic break. PLEASE NOTE THAT SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS TUESDAY 8TH OCTOBER 2024

Week beginning 15th June 2020

Hi Reception Families!

This week in our English learning we are going to listen to, watch and really think whilst watching a short animated story that is all about... Yes! you guessed it!  heartkindnessheart

A short story about kindness

If you need to, watch the animated story a few times so that you can really understand it.

Now, this story is told through animation and not through reading the pages of a book. It is still a story though! Let's think about whether or not it has everything that a story needs.

  • Who are the characters?
  • What is the story's setting (where the story takes place)?
  • What happens at the start of the story?
  • What happens in the middle of the story?
  • What happens at the end of the story?
  • Is there a problem/something that goes wrong in the story?
  • Is the problem solved? How?
  • Does the story teach us something and make us think?

Talk about all these things during or after watching the film.

It is time for you to write the words to go with the animation! Ready story writers?!

There are lots of templates below for you to print or copy and use to write your story. A plain piece of paper will do though! The story will need a title and you will have to give the characters names! Keep playing, watching, chatting about, forwarding and rewinding the film to help you.

The most important thing story writers is to  enjoy yourselves!

READING ACTIVITIES

Here are some reading comprehension activities for the children. Some seem really easy but their purpose is for the children to understand, comprehend, answer questions and respond to what they have read. They are a lovely activity for them to do independently and are great practise for year1!
