Happy Weekend Reception 2!
Hello everybody and thankyou for a lovely week. We have had a super week sharing in celebrations with our gorgeous families that have been observing Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr this week. I'd like to say a huge thank you first of all to those children that have proudly shared their own experiences of Ramadan and Eid and indeed the whole class for getting involved and enjoying such a happy time! A HUGE THANKYOU to the families who have treated the children to some yummy treats, you really have been so very kind.
So, whilst learning about Ramadan and Eid we have made Eid cards, experienced having a little bit of Mendi with Henna and listened to some lovely songs and stories. Alongside this, we have been learning about time. We have found out about the sources that people use to tell the time, units of time, right up to infinity, which brought about some interesting discussions and have been finding our way around an analogue clock to tell o'clock times!
In phonics, we have been practising writing our Phase 3 graphemes (letters) from memory and have been sharing some funny songs to help us to secure our Tricky Words. We have also been practising writing simple, dictated sentences that contain Phase 4 words.
I am very proud of how the children's confidence is blossoming in their writing. We are continuing to remember finger spaces and have begun to remember that sentences also need a capital letter and a full stop.
Mrs Herman's and Miss Hodgson carry out the weekly handwriting session whilst I am on PPA. They are so blown away by how much care the children take their time and care as they learn to form their letters correctly.
We had an extra PE session with Mr Shingler this week and the children loved it! He said their listening skills were 'remarkable'!
The children's reading days have been slightly disrupted by us altering our timetable to have our Eid celebration day. Please don't worry if this happens as I always catch up so that all of the children get their dedicated 1-1 reading time with me.
A big well done to Marina for being R2's Medal Winner this week. She is kind, gentle, funny and a super hard worker!
Next week we will be returning to our Transport topic and will look at different kinds of Sea Transport. We'll explore the scientific concept of 'floating and sinking', which fits in nicely with our topic. In maths we will begin to learn about money. We'll explore the detail on different coins and their value and count amounts of money in pennies. Maybe you could chat to your child about the coins that are in their piggy banks?!
It just remains for me to wish you all a happy weekend! Enjoy the piccies that follow which sum up what an ace week we have had in R2.
