Phonics and reading
Every FRIDAY (please note there has been a change of day) your child will bring home their new reading books and phonic homework sheet to complete in pencil. The phonic reading books give your child an opportunity to practise their reading skills. The books can be read multiple times during the week giving your child the chance to build up their confidence when reading independently. It is beneficial to their reading progress if they aim to read for around ten minutes each day (to an adult) and that the adult writes in their orange reading record book when they have done so.
As we are continuing to progress through our phonics scheme, the phonic sheet that I am sending home for homework has a slightly different format. There is now a lot more emphasis on practising reading skills, understanding what the word means and spelling. Please complete them in pencil and put them back in the reading folder ready to be marked for the following FRIDAY.

Spellings
I will also be sending home a weekly spellings list, for the children to learn (in their red spellings book), on a MONDAY. The children will have one week to learn the spellings for a test in school the following MONDAY. The test will be completed in their red spellings book so you can see how your child does and if they need to continue practising previous spellings. Please keep the red book in their reading folder.
There is also a practise sheet to help with learning the spellings (that lasts for two weeks). There is a copy below if it gets lost.
Thank you for your continuing support,
Miss Green
