Hello Reception 2 Families!
The children have been just brilliant this week and Miss Lockett and I are incredibly proud of them all! This week the children have enjoyed sharing their Chatterbags with the class and it has been so lovely to hear them speak with confidence about their special things. We're still working our way through the bags, so please don't worry if your child's hasn't yet been returned.
The children have been scoping out their new classrooms, discovering what they like to do and are beginning to forge friendships and establish new routines. Mr Shingler took the children for their first PE lesson on Friday and they loved it (see the pics at the end!)
They attended their first whole school assembly too and we sang happy birthday to our big 5s! Each week one child from each class is chosen to be the medal winner in recognition of their efforts at school. Friday assembly is a real feel good end to the week.
I am really proud of how the children are settling into lunch time routines. To help your child, at home, look at the school menu together and make choices about next day's lunch. The children have milk and a fruit snack mid morning to keep them going.
Everyone came home with their reading folder on Monday. Reading routines will be established soon and will be explained properly at the 'Meet the Teacher' meeting on Wednesday 25th September at 4pm. Please do your best to attend the meeting, as we will chat about lots of important things to help us get this year off to the best possible start. On Thursdays, I will keep your child's reading folder in school over night to enable me to change their reading books, so please don't worry if they have disappeared!
We will begin teaching our Phonics scheme, Floppy's Phonics this coming week. Look out for your child's phonics homework on Fridays. We will check and renew their homework every Friday. The home work sheet is a very valuable practise of the new phonemes that they have learnt in school that week.
A second PE slot will take place this half term on Tuesdays, so please ensure that your child wears their PE kit on Tuesdays as well as Fridays. The children will enjoy a fun yoga class.
A few requests:
Myself and Miss Lockett look forward to seeing you all on Monday and I think that we're promised some sunshine next week too, happy days!
Please find below a slide show of lovely pics from this, our lovely first full week!
