Welcome back to Victoria Park Infant School

Autumn 2

Friday 12th December.

We had an amazing time on our Santa Dash around Victoria Park today. 1C sang Christmas songs and shook sleigh bells as we walked with the other Year 1 and Year 2 classes. Pictures are below...

On Monday, please can you bring in any library books your child has borrowed from school, as the librarians will be collecting them in next week.

Thanks and bye for now!

Miss Ryde.

Thursday 11th December.

What a busy week we've had in 1C! Well done to everyone who took part in our Christmas singing extravaganza on Tuesday and Wednesday - you are all stars!

Today was Christmas jumper day - here's a picture below, can you spot yourself?

Don't forget it's the Santa Dash tomorrow, children can wear their Christmas jumpers again.

Miss Ryde.

Wednesday 3rd December

The children are working very hard on rehearsing the Christmas Production, we are looking forward to showing you. The time for the performances are:

Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th December at 1.30pm.

Please also send in clothes that your child can wear for the Christmas Production, if you haven't already! The bag needs to be named and the clothes can be:

*something they'd wear for a party or

*plain bottoms and a Christmas/ winter jumper/ top

*easy for your child to change in to and comfortable

Please do not send fancy dress.

A few dates coming up:
11th December is Christmas jumper day; we ask the children to wear their Christmas jumper or a decorated top and make a donation to Save the Children.
16th December is Panto day!! We have a company that comes into school and we all enjoy a festive pantomime in the hall.
18th December is Christmas party day, where all the classes have their parties and then we come together in the hall to see if we get a ‘special visitor’.

The last day of term in school is Friday 19th December.

Library visits have finished for the time being so the next time the children will need to bring their books in to change is Monday 5th January.

Thank you for your continued support.

Thursday 27th November

This week the children have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We have been recognising and sorting them, as well as completing repeating patterns.

In Science we have been learning about animal migration and hibernation.

We have also begun preparing for our Christmas performance, you may have heard your children singing the songs at home!

Here are some photographs from the last couple of weeks. The children love to photograph their models and creations so here are some of them!

We have also been enjoying 'Musical Mondays' with special guests from some of our school families, introducing the instruments that they play. Thank you to all involved, and Mrs Cook for organising them.

Thursday 20th November

Firstly I'd like to say thank you to all of the parents for attending parent's evening. Miss Ryde and I enjoyed meeting you all and showing you your child's work, and we had some lovely feedback. We are really proud of them all, and the effort that everyone is making to support the children at home is helping them massively. Well done all!

We have also enjoyed Anti-Bullying week and wore our odd socks. We read stories and talked about types of friendly behaviour and how to be a good friend and resolve conflicts together.

In English over the past 2 weeks we have been reading the book Peace at Last by Jill Murphy. We have been learning to use adjectives and verbs, and we learnt the word onomatopoeia

We have also started to learn how to code using the Scratch Jr app for our Computing work. I've added a link underneath if you would like some steps to follow if you use Scratch JR at home.

Thank you for your continued support.

Tuesday 11th November

Just a quick note to say:

I have kept the reading folders to change the books and they will be sent home tomorrow.

Library will now be on Monday afternoons, thanks to our new volunteers who have completely updated our library and are busy showing the children how to make the most of it. If you think your child has misplaced their library book, please email me. aoconnell@victoriaparkinf.co.uk

The children observed the minute silence for Armistice Day today and they behaved beautifully, well done all.

We will see you for Parent's Evening tomorrow and Thursday.

Friday 7th November

Welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely half term break. Please see our newsletter below for information about this coming half term.

Here are some of the things we got up to at the end of the first half term.

Mrs Singh kindly came to talk to us about the festival of Diwali, and she read us a story.

We also had our Harvest celebration in school. Thank you for attending if you were able to, and for your kind donations to the food bank. The children really enjoyed singing and performing for you. We also learnt about how Harvest is an autumn celebration where food is shared with others.

Purple Mash

I have trialled a '2Do' on Purple Mash for our class. You will see there is a Science activity set for 1C, please try and complete it and if you have any trouble logging in or finding the activity please let me know. We are hoping to use it as an extra tool for homework in the future. Thank you!

This week

We have been learning to read and perform the poem In a Dark Dark Wood. The children have enjoyed this and have been changing the poem using their own ideas.

We have also learnt about the history of the Gunpowder Plot, and Remembrance Day.

Thank you to everyone who has worked hard to complete the phonics and reading homework. A little bit of reinforcement at home really does support the children's learning, and I have seen lots of positive feedback from parents in the children's reading record books - well done all!

Thank you also to everyone who has contributed to the Year One fund. So far we have bought toys and books for the classroom. The link can be found on Parent Pay if you haven't seen it already.

Next week

We are taking part in Odd Socks Day on Monday (yes, the teachers too!).

Miss Ryde and I will see you on Wednesday or Thursday next week for Parent's Evening.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs O'Connell xlaugh
