Hello, just a quick note. If possible could children come to school tomorrow in a white t shirt or a vest underneath their jumper or cardigan. (PE joggers will be fine or school trousers as I know it’s not normal PE day.) This will help with getting the costumes on and off and make them more comfortable to wear without collars!
Sorry for the late notice.
Thanks
Mr Logan.

This week has been a week full of nativity practice! The class and their neighbours in 2F have been working so hard to make sure that lines are learned and that songs are sung correctly. In amongst the practice we have been working on sentence types in literacy, thinking about what advent means as part of our RE work and continuing with times tables and partitioning numbers in maths.
We started some work on coding using 'scratch' to create a simple command for a character to follow. The children really engaged with the work and quickly learned how to complete the tasks I set them!
I have set homework on purple mash again for this week if you could please help your child to log on and complete the tasks.
The Christmas performance will be on Tuesday and Wednesday next week, both days at 2pm. There won't be tickets, but there will only be space for two seats per family per show. A member of staff will tick you off their list as you come in.
I look forward to seeing you then,
Thanks,
Mr Logan

It was a very full and varied week in 2L this week! We had our usual Literacy and Maths sessions focussing on reading comprehension and number bonds respectively. We spent some more time thinking about properties of materials in Science and had some great PE sessions. We spent more time practicing our Christmas show and learning the songs we are going to sing.
On Monday we performed ‘Shake It Off’ on the ukulele to the rest of the school. We had had one session last week and everyone did really well to remember the parts and show the rest of the school our talents.
As part of our Great Fire of London topic we built model houses that looked like the houses that would have been around at the time of the great fire. We then took them into
the playground so that we could recreate the fire itself! As it was breezy day it really showed how the wind helped the fire to spread!
The children will be changing their library books regularly on a Wednesday so please make sure your child has their book with them ready to change. The volunteers in the library are doing a great job and are providing handy reminders of the books that the children have borrowed (if they have forgotten them) to make the hunt for them easier!
Thanks.
Mr Logan.

The class have worked hard all week this week and produced some wonderful work. In English we looked at the diary of Samuel Pepys and how he wrote about the great fire then attempted to write our own version of his diary. In Maths we looked at adding and subtracting using different methods of breaking two digit numbers into tens and ones in order to make the calculations easier to manage.
In Topic we continued our Great Fire learning by building models of the types of houses found in London at that time and also looked at how the fire spread. In PE we developed our hand eye coordination and accuracy by playing a bowling game.
We have started to learn songs and lines in preparation for our Christmas show. If your child has a line to learn it would be great if parents could go through their lines with their child to help them get familiar with the part.
Have a great weekend,
Thanks,
Mr Logan

We had another great week in 2L this week. The children had a great time with the firefighters who came to visit and they all had the opportunity to ask questions and spray the hose! It gave us a great memorable experience as part of our topic work as well as encouraging us to stay safe! We also had a lovely music assembly from some parents of children in the school to start the week.
In class we continued our work on the Great Fire of London - learning songs to help us recall the events and what contributed to the fire. In Maths we continued working on times tables and thinking about dividing by 2, 5 and 10.
Thank you to all of the parents who came to parent's evening - it was great to meet you all and to share how your child has been getting on in Year 2 so far.
I have set homework on purple mash and you may notice that your child will stop bringing the phonics reading books home as we complete the scheme. They will now be able to have two 'books to share' a week. Please continue to read with your child at home and record in their reading record when they have finished reading a book.
Thanks
Mr Logan

It has been a great first week back in 2L. The class have settled back into the school routine quickly! In literacy, the children have been focusing on handwriting and letter formation with some of the class working with Mrs Walkden to form joins. We have also been working hard on phonics and looking at alternate spellings. In Maths we looked at multiplication and division using arrays (images that represent a times table) to help us get a better understanding of multiplication.
We were fortunate enough to have a visit from a current England netball player Eleanor Cardwell this week. She told us all about her career, answered the children's questions and then gave the class a coaching session.
This week I provided the class with new spellings for next week as well as giving out a comprehension homework about Guy Fawkes that I asked to be returned by Monday next week.
It is anti bullying week next week and the children can come to school on Monday wearing odd socks.
I also look forward to discussing how your child has settled into year 2 next week at parent's evening.
Thanks
Mr Logan
