9.1.26

It has been a great first week back in 2F. The children have settled into the school routine really well and have produced some great work. We have started our topic 'The Polar Regions' and began it by looking at maps of the world and locating the North and South poles, discussing their climate and their features. In Science we have been exploring polar animals. In Literacy we read the story of the Snow Queen and used it as the basis for our written work, focusing on describing words. In Maths we used coins to make different amounts and started to solve problems involving pounds and pence.

Next Wednesday we have our trip to the Snow Centre. Children should come to school in comfortable. warm clothing and bring a hat and gloves. (It would be preferable if the gloves were waterproof but any gloves will do!) The centre will provide waterproof coats, trousers, boots and helmet but they don't always provide gloves.

For homework for this week (due Friday 23rd) I would like the children to research a Polar animal and present their research to the rest of the class. This could be a simple poster, or researched information read aloud, or a plasticine model or even a powerpoint. It only needs to be brief and is an opportunity for the class to develop speaking and listening skills. Think of it as a topic based show and tell!  We will discuss ideas in class to help the children.

PE days are Monday and Tuesday starting 6/1/26.

Happy New Year to 2F and families.
Welcome back to school tomorrow we have missed you and look forward to seeing you:

Clubs will start back this week watch out for a link to join clubs with a slightly different timetable: The link will be live tonight or tomorrow.
I have posted the. Christmas play and party photos now as we had trouble uploading before Christmas.
This term our topic is Polar regions including animals and their habitats.
Our English work will revolve around the topic and concentrate on grammar and punctuation this term. We will be looking at question marks, speech marks and exclamation marks and for some children the use of paragraphs.
In Maths we will be starting missing numbers in addition and subtraction and vertical addition and subtraction methods as well as money problems, handling data graphs, Venn diagrams, Carroll diagrams and pictograms in scales of 2,5 and 10.

Thank you Mtr and Mrs Borkin for our last day performance
