School Closes for Spring Half Term - 13th February 2026 at 15:00

Spring 1

6.2.26

This week we looked at the life of Ernest Shackleton and in particular his journey on the Endurance. The class have really enjoyed learning about how he rescued the crew stranded in the Antarctic and we used that story to help us write descriptive sentences. In Maths we learned about measuring using centimetres and metres and the types of things that we would measure using a ruler or a metre stick.

The class have all being making great progress in gymnastics and dnance lessons and we had some great sessions this week in both. In PHSE the class discussed money and how to spend it responsibly, how different people earn money and the different ways in which money can be spent (cash, cards, phone etc).

In topic we learned about the differences between the clothing a Polar explorer would have worn 100 years ago and the clothing a contemporary explorer would wear.

I have added homework onto purple mash and the spellings for next week are: all, ball, call, walk, talk, always. small, wall, fall, altogether.

Thanks,

Mr Logan

30.1.26

This week in 2L we continued working hard on our writing. The whole class each wrote fantastic versions of the Snow Queen story. Everyone had to make at least on echange to the version of the story we have learned in class and make sure that their story was full of description. In Topic we looked at the lives of the Inuits who live in the Arctic. We learned about their traditional way of life and learned about their style of 'throat singing'. The whole class had a go at doing it themselves! In Art we looked at the work of Inuit artist Kenojuak Ashevak and tried to recreate some of her pictures.

Just a quick note on spellings - if children forget their spelling book on a Friday they will do their spelling test on a piece of paper and bring the following week's spellings home in their book bag. If they have their spelling books with them then we stick the spellings in their spelling books for the children to learn. Some children have been forgetting their spelling books and then losing the next week's spellings. From now on I will put the spellings on this page. This week's are: patting, patted, humming, hummed, dropping, dropped, sadder, saddest, runner, runny.

Thanks,

Mr Logan

23.1.26

We had another great week of learning in 2L this week. In literacy we looked again at descriptive language and thought about how to use contractions in our writing (can't, didn't, she'll) In Maths we looked at word problems involving money where the class had to decide whether the question was asking for an add or a subtract. In topic we focused on penguins. It was Penguin awareness day last week so we looked closely at two different types of penguin, Emperor and Adelie, and researched lots of interesting facts.

In Art the class produced amazing Ted Harrison inspired artwork using pva glue and watercolour paints.

I will add homework to purple mash this week and we will continue with weekly spellings. Please continue to read with your child at home. I have added a list of questions that you might like to ask your child as they read. (Not all of these question every time they read maybe just one or two!)

Thanks

Mr Logan

Some questions to ask your child whilst reading together:

  1. Look at the front cover. What could the book be about?
  2. Who is the author?
  3. What is an illustrator? What do they do?
  4. What does that word mean? Read the words around it to help you figure it out (context).
  5. How can you read an unfamiliar word?
  6. Who are the main characters?
  7. What do you think will happen next?
  8. How do you think that character feels? Why? How would you feel in that situation?
  9. Can you predict how the book will end?
  10. Who is your favourite character? Why?
  11. Is there a hidden message in the story? What is it?
  12. Can you retell the story in your own words?
  13. Do you like how the story ended? Can you think of another way the book could have ended?

16.1.26

It has been a fantastic week in 2L this week. The trip to the Snow Centre was a great success! The children behaved really well and had a wonderful time on the various activities. Back in class we used our experience to write descriptive sentences about being in the cold. The presentations that the children had researched for homework were brilliant. Every presentation was well delivered and full of interesting facts. Thanks you so much for your support in helping the children produce such great work! We will use the presentations to make a display in class and return them at a later date.

In Maths we continued our work on money and had great sessions in PE doing gymnastics and dance. I have added a Maths and an English task to purple mash to be completed by Wednesday.

Thanks

Mr Logan

9.1.26

It has been a great first week back in 2L. The children have settled into the school routine really well and have produced some great work. We have started our topic 'The Polar Regions' and began it by looking at maps of the world and locating the North and South poles, discussing their climate and their features. In Science we thought about if something is living, used to alive or had never been alive. In Literacy we read the story of the Snow Queen and used it as the basis for our written work, focusing on describing words and adverbs. In Maths we used coins to make different amounts and started to solve problems involving pounds and pence.

On Wednesday we have our trip to the Snow Centre. Children should come to school in comfortable. warm clothing and bring a hat and gloves. (It would be preferable if the gloves were waterproof but any gloves will do!) The centre will provide waterproof coats, trousers, boots and helmet but they don't always provide gloves.

I discussed the homework task with the class and some children asked if they could send a video of them talking in. Please feel free to send videos or powerpoints by email to jlogan@victoriaparkinf.co.uk. Again, please don't feel that you should spend any longer than you normally would do on homework!

Thanks,

Mr Logan

5.1.26

Hello and welcome back. I hope you all had a lovely break. Just a quick note to say that PE this half term will be on Monday and Tuesday. Monday will be Dance and Tuesday will be Gymnastics. Gymnastics will start this week.

Also, our topic this half term is the Polar Regions. For homework for this week (due Wednesday 14th) I would like the children to research a Polar animal and present their research to the rest of the class. This could be a simple poster, or researched information read aloud, or a plasticine model or even a powerpoint. It only needs to be brief and is an opportunity for the class to develop speaking and listening skills. Think of it as a topic based show and tell!  We will discuss ideas in class to help the children.

Thanks

Mr Logan
