Happy Easter holidays

This week the children have designed hats and made cards for friends and families.,

We have been involved in the Pokémon school football week and the children enjoyed using the Pokémon balls in PE.
In maths we have been looking at timing and patterns and have been securing some clock work.
Our English work this week was centred around the jungle and we explored where the first made the sea and wrote our own magic key stories.
Please keep up the reading over the holidays 10 minutes per day really makes a difference.
The children have been sent a diary to complete. Please try to make 5 or more entries of 2/3 sentences. We will enjoy looking at these on our return.

21/3/25

A busy week in school. It was lovely to see everyone at parents evening this week.
The two apps that I recommended were to explore BBC bite size materials for English and Maths eg karate kids and also the white rose I minute maths app to practice times tables and addition and subtraction mentally.
I am very pleased with the children’s handwriting the joins are really coming on.
You may start to notice that your child brings home English homework instead of spellings once we have completed a set list.
The grammar, vocabulary and punctuation work will usually take the form of filling in the missing words We are currently using the vocabulary

noun verb adjective and adverb.
We are also starting to work on speech marks as a topic.

14/3

Another week of exploring the desert region and looking at habitats.
This week has been a bit of a science week. We had some parent visitors from 2L who talked about their jobs in the science industry and we started a new vehicles, forces and materials topic with Mrs Hart. We spent another session looking at recycling and plastic in the environment the children learned a lot of new concepts!
In maths we have been exploring telling the time in o'clock, half past and quarter past and to times as well as looking at minutes past the clock.  Each child is at their own individual starting point in time and I’ve put a range of games on the education city for the children to work on.
Please look at clocks over the weekend both digital and analogue and read the times. Looking at clocks in real life situations and discussing these are great.
Well done for all the hard work in spellings it’s really paying off and the children are applying them to their writing well.
Enjoy looking at PE photographs from our football session this week.

Next week please send your child in pe

kit on Monday Tuesday and Thursday. On Monday we are taking KS1 to the juniors to take part in our own Victoria Park park run!
Photos to follow on the pe icon.

7/3/25

What a fabulous week it’s been. It’s amazing how much we have crammed into just two weeks in school!
The geography has been very interesting and we have learned a lot of new facts about where meerkats live and what the ground is like. In history we have enjoyed listening to the story of Florence Nightingale. The children loved it.

31/2/25

Wow what an amazing start to the week. Thank you for embracing Sunny’s diary entries. The children are so excited to take Sunny home. Please make sure you return him every day.
Please watch out in your child’s book bag for PE trip letters.
These can sometimes be more last minute as we are always happy to jump in or take more children to events by being flexible.
The children have settled in beautifully!

Keep up the amazing spelling and reading homework. These really are the important stepping stones to learning.

Welcome to the world of meerkats and deserts.

This half term we will be looking at the warmer countries and continents and looking specifically at the world of desert animals and then moving onto the rainforests.
Mrs Hart will be continuing her work on planting and plants knowing conditions that allow plants to grow. Watch out something exciting will be coming home with your child soon.

We will be using Meerkat Mail as a text for 2/3 weeks and will be learning how to write postcards, travel reviews, stories and non-fiction work surrounding descriptions of Meerkats.
In class science this will lead to food chains and giving adaptations that allow desert animals to arrive with little water.
In Geog we will look at the equator and discuss where the hotter continents are placed.
In History we will be looking at Florence Nightingale and inventors

PE days remain the same this half term.
