Week ending 4th April
This week we enjoyed a walk to the park to look at signs of spring. We spotted birds' nests, buds, blossom, tulips, and a clear blue sky!
Have a wonderful Easter break and I will see you on Tuesday 22nd April.

Friday 28th March
Thank you to everyone who came to parent's evening this week, it was so enjoyable to show you your child's work and talk about their progress.
We mentioned the phonics and maths games that can help boost the children's learning (linked below) as well as Hit the Button and White Rose Maths One Minute app.
This week we have enjoyed playing with our new STEM resources (as well as our favourite, Duplo). We have been able to buy new resources using our Year 1 fund money, thank you!
Spellings
We are keeping the spelling books to review, assess, and they will be given back after the Easter break.
Multiskills
Here are the photographs from our trip on Tuesday, it was a fantastic afternoon and we enjoyed meeting the PE coaches and trying lots of different activities.
We hope you all have a lovely Mother's Day, and Eid Mubarak to all who celebrate!
Mrs O'Connell x
In Art this week, we have been learning all about the Impressionist artist Vincent Van Gogh and we created our own sunflowers using coloured pastel crayons. Have a look at some of our amazing work... Well done everyone!
Miss Ryde.
Thursday 20th March
In class we have been enjoying playing Tricky Word Trucks to learn our helpful words. To play this particular game on phonicsplay.co.uk you will need a subscription to the website but there are other games online such as this one on phonicsbloom and also more in our phonics games folder, both linked below.
We enjoyed our netball session on Wednesday!
We have also introduced our new class text Suddenly by Colin McNaughton. We worked in groups to predict what the story would be and produced some fantastic ideas. The children enjoyed discussing and drawing their predictions.
We also learnt an Irish dance on Monday for St Patrick's Day - the video had a hiccup when downloading so I will upload it next week.
Next week reminder: our Multiskills trip is on Tuesday so next week we need PE kit on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday.
Thank you for your continued support, we will see you for parent's evening next Wednesday/ Thursday.

Tuesday 18th March
Yesterday we took part in a Victoria Park park run using the Junior School field - it was great fun and everyone tried their best, what a great start to our week!
Tomorrow, we are having a netball session, see the email below from Mrs Gill.
Thank you, Mrs O'Connell x
Thursday 13th March.
As part of our British science week, we had two special visitors in school today who work in STEM jobs (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). Lucas' Grandad talked about being a Nuclear Physicist and Rosa's Mum (1G) told us about being a Dentist. It was really interesting and the children had lots of questions to ask them!
Miss Ryde.
Wednesday 12th March
Today we have been scientists and studied flowers closely, exploring in real life all of the parts of plants that we have been learning about over the last 3 weeks. We have had a very exciting day, as straight afterwards, we took the opportunity to use our flowers to make relief sculptures in the style of Andy Goldsworthy, what brilliant artists!

Tuesday 11th March
We have started the week revising our number bonds to 10 and 20, as well as addition and subtraction word problems. Here is a guide to number bonds, please practise at home as much as possible.
We have also written variations of the traditional tale The Enormous Turnip. We used adjectives to describe the characters, and we carefully decided whether we needed full stops or exclamation marks.
Here is a funny video to support our science learning (some of the names are American but I thought the children would enjoy spotting vegetables they do know) If anyone wants to write another vegetable story I'd love to read it!
The school email address is victoriaparkinf.admin@trafford.gov.uk
Update: Homework will now be given out on Thursdays to give the children more chance to practise the new sounds in class.
Thank you for your continued support.

Thursday 6th March.
We have shared lots of our favourite stories today for World Book Day.
It was lovely to see the children dressed in their costumes or comfortable clothes.
To celebrate World Book Day, we wrote our own interpretation of 'The Storm Whale' as a class. We looked at the illustrations and decided together what to write in order to build the story in our own unique way. Here are some pictures of our day...
Miss Ryde.
Wednesday 5th March
Here is the curriculum update for Spring 2 so you can find out all about what we are learning this half term.
In Computing we talked about online safety, and created our own avatars to help us keep our personal information safe on the internet.

Tuesday 4th March
Today was our first day where it was sunny and warm enough to play outside without coats! Here are some photographs to prove it.
In Science last week we learnt all about how plants grow and reproduce, as well as the different parts of plants and their functions. Ask your child what they know about roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and seeds and about our very scientific words reproduce and photosynthesis! Look out for sunflower seeds to plant at home in book bags.
Great news - the new reading folders have arrived, we will transfer the reading books over tomorrow!
This week we are reading and writing our own traditional tales. We have practised using interesting words and phrases in our work, as well as remembering capital letters, full stops, and correct letter formation.
We are also learning about the UK, first visiting Wales and Scotland. If you have any photographs of any visits your child has had to any landmarks in the UK capital cities, we would love to see them. Please email them to the office.
In Maths, we are consolidating our number bonds to 10 and 20. Please practise counting on and back from any number within 50. We are practising working out answers to questions such as:
13 + 7 = 9 + 5 = 13 + ? = 20 ? + 9 = 14
and 18 - 5 = ? - 2 = 11
All practise at home will support the children's learning, thank you!
As it is World Book Day on Thursday, here is a link for how to apply for a Blue Peter Book Badge. Badge holders with a valid ID card can get free entry to over 200 Blue Peter badge attractions, including theme parks, zoos, gardens, and castles!

Monday 24th February
We've had a lovely first day back and it was great to see everyone back together again.
A note about reading folders - I have kept the reading folders this afternoon to change the reading books. Folders will be sent home tomorrow along with spelling books and homework. I do realise the folders are looking very worn, I have spoken to Mrs Dempsey and school have new folders on order. In the meantime please only keep reading books, reading record, spelling books, and homework that needs to be marked, as the older homework isn't needed in school once it has been marked.
Please also don't forget to sign the reading record each time you hear your child read at home.
Thank you for your continued support.
