Week ending 10/10
What a great week we have had exploring harvest time as a festival and as a time to think about food, crops and our upcoming harvest festival.
In Maths we have continued with the addition and subtraction strand and explored some patterns.
In English we have explored poetry and begin our work next week on Traditional Tales.
All children should have brought home a multi skills festival slip for Tuesday afternoon. Apologies for the late notice this is often the case in sporting opportunities as we are one of the most local schools to UA92 and we are linked with the sports coaching students who regularly put on festivals just for us! It's a fabulous opportunity for the children.
Please make sure the slip is returned on Monday.
Please note that earrings and jewellery cannot be worn in any PE lesson. Taping is no longer deemed a suitable or protective alternative to removal and is just as risky. Earrings can get caught in equipment, clothing or on others in contact sports/partner work and can indeed tear the ear. Necklaces, bracelets and other forms of jewellery are also not permitted in PE and this is stated in our PE policy.
Homework
Homework is due back on Wednesday. It will always be re issued by the end of Friday. Our spelling system in 2F is very different to the one used in Year 1. Currently all children have been issued with their own personal set of 10 spellings taken from
errors in their own work. This helps us secure any of the Year 2 words quickly and addresses each child’s unique spelling needs.
As we test all 30 children individually this takes up quite a lot of time and is rolled over the next 2/3 days. Please be reassured that you will notice a huge improvement in your child’s spellings by Christmas.
I am amazed at the reading enthusiasm and progress already in class 2F. Thank you so much for all the support as the children are zooming! Keep up all the great work at home!
Over the next half term we will be securing all the handwriting letters ready to start joining our letters and I will share any handwriting targets in the spelling homework book.
Have a lovely weekend!
Week ending 3/10/25
English homework this week is spelling and writing. Please note all the spellings are individual and may be from your child's own writing. I have asked the children to write two sentences and this will be a chance to show off the handwriting we have been practising. Please make sure all the letters sit on the line correctly and that the writing is no larger than mine. We are currently securing all the correct letter formations before we start joining up some letters. Please use pencil for the sentences and you can choose any word to write about.
In Maths this week we have been practising drawing tens and ones and then adding and subtracting. This week the children have subtractions to complete. Some children may wish to calculate this mentally and this is fine too.
We have been continuing the work on Stretford and Manchester. The children are enjoying this topic.
A fabulous trip!
It was a great morning this morning. Here are a selection of photos from the Stretford public hall. We climbed the clock tower in small groups and had a look at how the clocks worked. It was fascinating. We made our own tile patterns and models of the hall and clock tower

It has been a busy week this week in 2F We continued our learning about Manchester by writing stories based around the book 'Katie in London'. We altered the story so that we imagined visiting sites around Manchester on the back of a bee! In Maths we looked at ordering numbers and using greater than and less than symbols. In Art we started a silhouette of Manchester ant night and in History we looked at how Manchester has changed over time - looking at pictures form 100 year ago and comparing them to photographs from now.
If any families of children in class have anything that they would like to share about their Manchester past please send it in with your child so we can share it in class. It may be a photograph of your house from when it was built or an old football programme. It would be nice to look at artefcacts from Manchester history that have a family connection!
Next week on Wednesday morning we will be popping over to Stretford public hall to learn about its history. The visit should only last an hour and children will be back well in time for lunch. As it is a brief local area visit it wasn't necessary to provide the children with permission slips, however if you have any queries or issues concerning the visit please let me know via email.
Honework this week is contained in two separate books. Spellings and Maths will be due in every Wednesday but feel free to send the books back after the weekend if you prefer. Spellings will be a mixture of patterns of spellings, key words for Year 2 and individual lists from your child’s own work. Maths will usually be one sheet that relates to a topic we have covered, a game online to complete or some oral counting or times tables later in the year.
I hope you have a lovely weekend.
Thanks
Mrs Gill

We have had a great week in 2F. We have spent time in topic thinking about LS Lowry and looking at his paintings in detail, thinking about why he chose to paint particular pictures and the techniques he used. We learned that he was born in Stretford and that he enjoyed drawing and painting scenes from the Northwest of Engalnd, where we live. In literacy we wrote about jobs that happen at night time and why they are important. In Maths we continued looking at place value and partitioning numbers into tens and ones. We had great first PE sessions in Football with Steve and games with Mr Shingler and look forward to starting netball next week with coach Sally.
I will be sending an email home about an upcoming 'Meet the teacher' session after school which will be happening later next week.
Thanks
Mr Logan

Hello and welcome to 2F!
It has been a pleasure getting to know the children so far this week. We've spent time in class getting used to routines and generally settling in to Year 2 life. The class have written about their holidays and in Maths have looked at different ways of partitioning numbers. We have explored living things in science and spent some time playing games in the hall with equipment.
In terms of reading books and home reading, the children's books have been given out this week and will be changed regularly. All children will have a phonics book as well as their regular reading book while we complete our school phonics scheme. Children should make sure to bring their reading folders in each day and put them in the reading slots outside of the classroom.
Please encourage the children to read for ten minutes per night.
On Monday the children will be given their spelling books. Spelling books should be returned every Monday morning. Every Monday/Tuesday I will provide the children with spellings to learn for a short spelling test on the following Monday. Maths homework will be given most weeks starting on Friday next week. This may be written piece of work, a game online or counting.
This term we are concentrating on counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s extending to 3’s and recall of doubles and halves to 20.
PE will be on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays this half term. Wednesday and Thursday will be 30 mins and Friday 60 mins.
I will be available on the playground before and after school if you have any queries or need any support with homework etc.
I will be updating this page regularly usually before Sunday night with news about exciting things we have been doing in school, trips and any other information.
Finally, my email address Fgill@victoriaparkinf.co.uk. I will do my best to respond within 48 hours to any emails.
Thanks for a lovely week 2F!
Mrs Gill
