This week in literacy we read the story of the town mouse and the country mouse. The class then had to think about some changes they could make to the story to make it their own. The children came up with some great ideas and wrote some really descriptive stories. In Maths we thought about addition and subtraction by getting to the 'nearest ten'. In Science we continued our work on animals and humans by thinking about the importance of healthy eating. In topic we thought about making maps with keys that could direct people from school to the tram stop in Stretford.
As next week is a shorter week we will do our spelling test on Thursday next week. I won't be giving new spellings or homework out next week as I think the class could do with a rest after working so hard this half term!
I look forward to seeing parents who can make it at the Harvest Assembly next week too.
Thanks

We have had a good week of learning in 2L this week In literacy we thought about words to describe autumn and turned them into acrostic poems. We then performed them in front of the whole class! The class worked hard and created some really descriptive sentences. In Maths we worked hard on our knowledge of 3d shapes and made sure we used the correct vocabulary when describing them, using words like 'vertices' and 'faces'. In Art we finished our Lowry work after making sure we had paid attention to the finer details of our pictures.
Next week we will be going to Stretford leisure centre on Tuesday afternoon to take part in a PE multiskills session. Please remember to send your child in dressed for PE on that day.
Also just a note about reading books. Your child will be listened to at least once a week by a member of staff and their books will be changed once a week. We may be able to change books twice a week if a child tells us they have finished the book at home during the week having already read. However, this might not always be possible due to the busy nature of school life! If your child has finished a school reading book in that time, they are welcome to read their library book, a book from the class bookshelf or a chapter book from home and record that reading in their reading record. Please do not feel that you have to do this it is just as an option. Children currently still have their phonics books to read as we complete the scheme (as I mentioned during the meet the teacher meeting) and will soon be able to have two 'books to share', where appropriate, once we no longer use the phonics reading books.
Thanks

This week we had our trip to Manchester city centre. Every member of the class was really well behaved and we all had a great time! We saw the Emmeline Pankhurst statue and chanted "Deeds not words" and saw original Lowry paintings at the art gallery. We also explored an exhibition called 'An Inheritance':
"Showing at Manchester Art Gallery in 2025 and again in 2125, An Inheritance brings together a sprawling collection of knowledge, advice, jokes, memories and objects curated by local primary school children."
It was really interesting to hear what children thought of the exhibition and what advice they would give to future generations!
Back in class we wrote wrote letters to Emmeline Pankhurst and described our trip. We looked at fact families in Maths ( for example 9+1 =10, 1+9 =10, 10-9=1 and 10-1=9) and how they can help us understand more difficult maths questions.
The children also added final details to their Lowry inspired artworks and had some great PE sessions
I have added two new homework tasks to purple mash this week also.
Hope you have a good weekend,
Thanks,
Mr Logan

Another very busy week has flown by in 2L. We had a great visit to Stretford Public Hall on Wednesday where we learned all about its history and what it is used for today. We also were lucky enough to get to walk up the stairs to the clock tower and see how the clock worked and the view from the top. The staff at the public hall were very helpful and gave the children some craft activities to do whilst we were waiting for our turn to visit the clock tower.
In class we learned about Emmeline Pankhurst and why she is an important person in Manchester history. In Maths we used hundred squares to help us with addition and subtraction.
I set homework for the class on purple mash this week. I hope you have all been able to access it. I have only set one task for the children to complete this week but please feel free to have a browse of the website and allow your children to have a go at some activities.
Thanks to all of the parents who could make it to the meet the teacher session. I will upload the powerpoint onto the class page for anyone who couldn't make it.
I hope you have a good weekend,
Thanks,
Mr Logan

It has been a busy week this week in 2L. We continued our learning about Manchester by writing stories based around the book 'Katie in London'. We altered the story so that we imagined visiting sites around Manchester on the back of a bee! In Maths we looked at ordering numbers and using greater than and less than symbols. In Art we added to our Lowry pictures and in History we looked at how Manchester has changed over time - looking at pictures form 100 year ago and comparing them to photographs from now.
If any families of children in class have anything that they would like to share about their Manchester past please send it in with your child so we can share it in class. It may be a photograph of your house from when it was built or an old football programme. It would be nice to look at artefcacts from Manchester history that have a family connection!
Next week on Wednesday morning we will be popping over to Stretford public hall to learn about its history. The visit should only last an hour and children will be back well in time for lunch. As it is a brief local area visit it wasn't necessary to provide the children with permission slips, however if you have any queries or issues concerning the visit please let me know via email.
I hope you have a lovely weekend.
Thanks
Mr Logan

We have had a great week in 2L. We have spent time in topic thinking about LS Lowry and looking at his paintings in detail, thinking about why he chose to paint particular pictures and the techniques he used. We learned that he was born in Stretford and that he enjoyed drawing and painting scenes from the Northwest of Engalnd, where we live. In literacy we wrote about jobs that happen at night time and why they are important. In Maths we continued looking at place value and partitioning numbers into tens and ones. We had great first PE sessions in Football and with Mr Shingler and look forward to starting netball next week.
I have provided written homework as we wait for the school's online homework access to be finalised - although I previously mentioned that homework should be returned on Monday it is fine for the written homework to be returned on Tuesday this week.
I will be sending an email home about an upcoming 'Meet the teacher' session after school which will be happening later next week.
Thanks
Mr Logan
Hello, welcome to 2L! The children have had a great first week settling into their new classroom and it has been great to get to know them all a little better. We have spent some time writing about our adventures in the holidays and talking about our families.
Most of the information you need is covered in the newsletter but just a reminder that our PE days will be Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for the first half term. Also, please try to ensure that your child comes to school with their reading book each day. We will read with your child at least once a week and change books when they have been completed. I will be providing homework on a Wednesday (due in the following Monday) which may be a worksheet or online. I will also be giving spellings out on a Friday to learn for the following Friday.
If you have any questions or concerns I will usually be available for a quick chat at home time or you can email me: JLogan@victoriaparkinf.co.uk and I will try to reply within 48 hours.
Thanks
