Homework (Summer 2)
For this term we are continuing to use our spellings homework to consolidate our phonics learning and revisit any previous spellings that they haven’t learnt. By the end of Year One the children should know how to spell the ‘helpful words’ from our phonics scheme (Floppy’s phonics) and words containing the sounds we have been learning all year. I have also included a copy of the school’s handwriting scheme that you may find useful.
I will continue to send home the list to learn in their red books on Mondays. The children will have one week to learn the spellings for a test the following Monday (sometimes it will be a Tuesday). Please keep the red book in their reading folder. There is also a practise sheet to help with learning the spellings (that lasts for two weeks). There is a copy below if it gets lost.
On Friday your child will bring home their new reading books and a maths homework sheet (that consolidates the class work) to be completed in pencil. The phonic reading books give the children an opportunity to practise their reading skills. The books can be read multiple times during the week giving the children the chance to build up their confidence when reading independently. Please can you support your child with their reading by aiming to hear them read at home every day, for around ten minutes and write in their orange reading record book when you have done so.
Thank you for your continuing support,
Miss Green
