Spring Term Homework

Phonics and reading

We have changed reading book changing days to Monday. The phonic reading books give the children an opportunity to practise their reading skills. The 'shared' reading books are to be read together with an adult.

Please regularly hear your child read at home and help them to practise their reading skills - we ask that families aim for 10 minutes every day. This support at home is vital to help build your child's skills, confidence, fluency and enjoyment.

The children are now quite familiar with the phonics sheets and use their segmenting and blending skills to read the words. Please complete them in PENCIL and put them back in the reading folder ready to be marked for the following week.

Below is a link to the phonics and early reading section from our website, which you may find useful when completing the phonics homework.

Spellings

We will now send home a list of spellings to learn each week. Please support your child to learn the spellings for a check up test on Tuesday. The first test will be on 14th January (Week 1 words). This is an informal check to help motivate children to learn their list, they will then be able to use the correct spellings in their writing which will improve their work and help their learning.  Please keep the red book in their reading folder.

There is also a practise sheet to help with learning the spellings. Here is a copy in case it gets lost.

Thank you for your continuing support, we are looking forward to another enjoyable term!
