Friday 25th July
What a busy way to end our final week in Year One😊
If you are looking for something to do this summer, the annual reading challenge (at the library) is called Story Garden all about being creative in lots of different ways.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone for their generous and thoughtful voucher, gifts and cards. I hope you all enjoy the summer break and Mr Logan is looking forward to seeing you on Tuesday 2nd September.
Love Miss Green
Friday 18th July
What a busy week this week! On Tuesday we used our chopping skills and made our own fruit salads. The children got to eat what they had made and it was delicious. 😊
In Maths we have been learning about time. We have used a clock face (analogue clock) and learnt how to recognise ‘o’clock’ and ‘half past’ and practised drawing the hour and minute hand on empty clock faces. This proved to be rather tricky as the children found it difficult to make sure the minute hand was longer than the hour hand. Next week we will continue with this work. There is a game in the maths folder if your child wants to continue practising recognising time on a clock face.
If you are looking for something else to do this weekend, why not take part in the Big Butterfly count? It starts on Friday (18th July) and runs until 10th August. Full details can be found on the link below.
Finally, I have collected in the reading folders today. I will still listen to the children read in school next week but there is no maths or reading homework for the last week in school. If you feel like you want to do some extra work with your child, the local library is an excellent resource for books and there are some games in the maths and phonics folders.
Next week
As Friday is our last day together in Year One, the children are allowed to bring in their own toy but nothing too large, precious, expensive or electrical please.
Wednesday 16th July
Why not Wednesday? What a great surprise we got to do a scootfit session in school today! The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Friday 11th July
It has been a lovely week in 1G and the children have enjoyed reading Little Red and the Very Hungry Lion in our English lessons. We have been practising sentence writing and accurately punctuating them, as we predicted what might happen next in the story. In Maths we have been learning all about money, recognising coins and notes. Over the last few weeks in Circle Time, we have been talking about changes that are taking place and how we are feeling about moving classrooms and going into Year Two. The children got to meet Mr Logan this week (their Year Two teacher) and found out about some of the exciting things they will get to do with him in September.
Finally, I hope you are all enjoying the weather (please remember to have water bottles in school) and I look forward to seeing you at the school fair on Sunday.
Wednesday 2nd July
What a super sports day at the park 😊
Friday 27th June
What a busy week it has been in 1G! Highlights of the week include travelling around Kenya to find out about some of the other places tourists might visit apart from the Masai Mara, in Geography. In science we have continued to sort animals into categories of carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. We have been so excited to learn about the animals that live in the savannah, that we have started using this knowledge to build our own Kenyan safari’s when playing in class 😊. In Health and Wellbeing, we have continued learning about how to keep safe in different situations. This week we have focused on how to cross the road safely.
In Maths we have introduced multiplication as counting equal groups, for example, 5 equal groups of 2 makes 10 altogether. The children have worked hard on counting equal groups eg 2+2+2+2=8 or 4 lots of 2 = 8 (multiplication) as well. To support this, please practise counting in steps of 2, 5 and 10 at home. Here are some fun games where the children can also practise a variety of skills including number bonds to 10 and 20.
We have also introduced sharing out an amount to make equal groups (division). We have shown the children to count a total amount and share it between a number of groups equally ("one for me, one for you.."). Please also see our games folder for more maths games to play.
Next week
Sports day – Key Stage 1 (Year One and Two) is Wednesday 2nd July in the park (1.30-3pm). The children will need to come to school in their PE clothes on this day. They do not need their green book bags or reading folder on this day but please make sure they have their water bottles in school.
Just a reminder that the children are not in school on Friday 4th July as it is an INSET day for the teachers.
Monday 16th June
Today we went on our much-anticipated trip to Blackpool Zoo to look at the different animals. There was great excitement to be travelling on a double decker bus and even more excitement to be going on a motorway. After about five minutes of travelling, we had the inevitable ‘are we there yet?’ closely followed by ‘when are we having lunch?’. The children enjoyed the day immensely and luckily we had some lovely weather. Below are some pictures of the day, I'm sure they will have lots to tell you tonight!
Friday 13th June
Welcome back to school everyone! I hope you all had a restful break. We have completed the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check and the children worked so hard, I am proud of each and every one of you. The results will be sent with the end of year report.
This week the children have been excited to start our new topic on Let’s Explore…Kenya! In Geography we have found out where Kenya is in the world and learnt about the weather and how the seasons are different to ours. In our English lessons we used a non-fiction book to find out some interesting facts about the animals that you might see on safari and wrote our own fact files.
In maths we have started our topic on multiplication and division by counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and recognising odd and even numbers. You can help your child at home by counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s or solving questions such as, “I have 3 groups of 10, how many do I have altogether?” I have also sent home some homework today to help consolidate this work.
Trip to Blackpool Zoo on Monday 16th June
We are all excited and can’t wait to go on our class trip. Just a couple of things to remember. Please wear school uniform and bring your packed lunch in a labelled disposable bag.
You will not need your green book bag or reading folder on this day.
Tuesday 10th June
Welcome back to school everyone!
Just to let you know that PE this half term will be on Tuesday’s and Friday’s and the children can come to school in their PE kits on those days.
Spelling books will be sent home with new spelling lists ready to be tested the following Monday.
