Summer 2

Friday 25th July

We would like to say a big thank you to all parents and carers for our lovely gifts, cards, and generous voucher, it was very thoughtful of you! heart

If you are looking for something to do this summer, the annual reading challenge (at the library) is called Story Garden and is full of enchanting worlds and fascinating facts this year.

Here are some photographs from the past few weeks.

Everyone enjoyed our 'Toy Day' today, it was lovely to see the children sharing their favourite toys with their classmates.

It has been a pleasure to teach your children this year. We hope you have a fantastic summer break, and Mrs Gill will be glad to see you join 2F on Tuesday 2nd September.

See you then and take care!

Lots of love from Miss Ryde and Mrs O'Connell xx

Friday 18th July.

Next week.

Thank you to all those children who have returned their library book this week. If you haven't, please could you have a good look for them and pop them in your child's bag for Monday.

As Friday is our last day together in 1C, we have arranged for a 'Bring your own toy' day in school. Bring your toy in a named bag, nothing too large, precious or electrical please. Also, there will be no PE next Friday.

See you next week.

Miss Ryde.

Tuesday 15th July

It was fantastic to see so many of you at the summer fair on Sunday! I hope you had a lovely time.

This week we have already been working hard in DT; we have learnt about plants and how they grow, and what part of different plants we eat. We have also taken turns to  make a fruit salad in small groups. The children talked about where the fruit was from, as well as where the seeds are and carefully preparing them to eat. Well done 1C!

This week, we are learning all about time in Maths. We are learning how to read the o'clock and half past on a clock.

Here is what is happening in the next few days:

Wednesday 16th - we will collect in our library books, and complete our final spelling test for Year 1. Mrs Walkden has also organised a (surprise) fun day! The children can wear their PE kits or something similar. I have no idea what it is, I'm as excited as the children!

The reading books are being changed this week, and I will collect them all back in on Monday 21st July.

The children have visited their new Year 2 classroom and spoken to their new teacher who is Mrs Gill! They are all very excited to find out about Year 2 and they will have another visit to her classroom next week. Mrs Gill will have to prise them away from me as I don't want them to leave myself and Miss Ryde I'm afraid!

We break up for the summer next Friday 25th July (but let's not talk about that!)

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs O'Connell x

Thursday 3rd July.

The children have been working really hard in art, creating their Savannah animals silhouette paintings over the last few weeks. We wanted to share a few of them with you before they bring them home in the last week.

Well done everyone!

Miss Ryde.

Wednesday 2nd July

What a great Sports Day! Thank you for coming and supporting us, if you were able to. The children enjoyed it very much and I'm so proud of how everybody tried their best!

Don't forget it's staff only on Friday.

Many thanks, Mrs O'Connell x

Monday 30th June

Spellings and library - TUESDAY (just for this week)

PE kit - Tuesday as normal (Gymnastics)

PE kit - Wednesday (Sports day)

INSET Day - Friday (staff only)

Thank you, Mrs O'Connell x

Wednesday 25th June

This week we have introduced sharing out an amount to make equal groups (division). We have shown the children to count a total amount and share it between a number of groups equally ("one for me, one for you.."). Here is a game which I think will help with this.

The children have worked hard on counting equal groups eg 2+2+2+2=8 or 4 lots of 2 = 8 (multiplication).

We have also achieved ten stars in our class jar which means everybody enjoyed a treat today! We work hard as a class on our school rules which are: Spreading a smile, Telling the truth, even when it's difficult, Always being kind, Reaching for the stars, Showing respect (S.T.A.R.S) and we earn a class reward when we fill our jar! We hope to earn our reward again very soon.

We are also reminding the children to remember to go to the toilet at playtimes and lunchtime, as to minimise disruption to our shared learning times on the carpet as much as possible.

In Science this week we have investigated different types of animals and how they can be sorted into the groups carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores. We were sent some poo* samples from the zoo to investigate, here are some photographs.

*I tried to trick the children, it wasn't really poo!

Next week

*Sports Day is scheduled for Wednesday so please send your child in on that day wearing PE kit. Don't forget their usual water bottle too please as we will take those with us for sports day.

*As Wednesday is our usual day for spellings and library, next week we will do both of these on TUESDAY. The children don't need to bring their book bags in on Wednesday.

*Friday 4th July is our INSET day for our transition work. No children will be in school that day.

Thank you for your continued support, don't hesitate to talk to myself or Miss Ryde if you have any questions.

Wednesday 18th June

Here is our super writing following on from our trip to the zoo on Monday. Our focus was to use time connectives.

In Maths we have introduced multiplication as counting equal groups, for example, 5 equal groups of 2 makes 10 altogether.

To support this, please practise counting in steps of 2, 5 and 10 at home. Here is a fun game where the children can also practise a variety of skills including number bonds to 10 and 20. Please also see our games folder for more maths and phonics games.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs O'Connell x

Monday 16th June

Today we have enjoyed our much anticipated trip to Blackpool Zoo. The children behaved beautifully and thoroughly enjoyed it! We spotted lots of African animals; elephants, lions, giraffes, zebra, ostrich and meerkats. (We also couldn't resist a sneaky peak at some of the other animals that don't usually live in Africa!) The children will have lots to tell you tonight! Here are some photographs of our amazing day!

Wednesday 11th June

Welcome back to school everyone! I hope you all had a restful break. I have enjoyed hearing about what exciting things everyone got up to.

We've had a great start to the week! We have completed the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check and the children worked so hard, I am proud of each and every one of them.

We have introduced our topic Let's Explore... Kenya! and the children have already found out facts about African animals using non fiction texts. Our curriculum update is below so you can read all about our plans for this half term.... We are VERY excited for our trip on Monday and we have talked about how to stay safe in unfamiliar environments. On Monday, please ensure your child has a packed lunch (in a carrier bag) and a disposable water bottle. We won't be able to carry around lots of lunch boxes or our usual water bottles so please send disposable ones.

In Maths this week we have been recognising odd and even numbers, as well as counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s. We have been reading and solving word problems using addition and subtraction.

Please practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s with your child at home, and solving questions such as "I have 3 groups of 10, how many do I have altogether".

As before the holiday, PE this half term will be on Tuesdays and Fridays and the children can come to school in their PE kits on those days.

Spelling tests and library book changes are now both on Wednesdays.

Please don't hesitate to ask us if you have any other queries.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs O'Connell x laugh
